(More customer reviews)I make smoothies just about every morning for breakfast--year round. Finding a blender that will hold up to consistent, everyday use--without fail has been difficult. Nothing seems to be made to last anymore. Things seem to last only a few months-- to a year at best before requiring replacement. I bought this Oster, to replace a Black and Decker blender that was shoddy, poor quality and only lasted 5 months! This machine has a motor strong enough to crush the frozen fruit that I use daily, without leaving chunks behind. It is loud, but I couldn't care less as long as it gets the job done. It does take awhile for all of the fruit to blend though, and sometimes I have to stop the machine and stir before re-starting. That can be annoying. While it's not my ideal choice, it is the more than adequate, and if you don't need to use it day in and day out like I do--you should be very happy with it.
Oh and FYI If you're making smoothies, keep all of the fruit frozen--I even peel and freeze the bananas. Makes for thicker smoothies!
**UPDATE: 2/4/11: I have owned the machine now for about 3 months now and some glaring issues have presented themselves. The silver bottom of the blender jar must be removed after each use and thoroughly cleaned or a residue and odor ensue. However the bottom is very difficult to unscrew. Also, I suspect that the motor is waning, as the machine is unable to crush frozen fruit as well as in the beginning. Thus I would NOT recommend this machine. Save your money.
