(More customer reviews)This blender has a powerful motor for it's size. With two speed settings, it is very capable of most any blender task it is given including crushing ice. It has a six cup capacity which is a bit more than most of the lower end models on the market. It is more attractive than most other models too, looks nice on the counter next to my stand mixer of the same color. Another nice feature is the square base on the jar. You can set it down on the motor base from any angle and it fits and is ready to go, no more fidgeting to fit it into the "grooves" just right. The negatives I have found are: it is very noisy, especially on the higher speed setting. The other problem I had with this blender is that every so often, the large plastic nut on the bottom of the jar, (which holds the blade assembly in place), becomes slightly loose during operation. How I found this out was when I poured the contents into a glass; some watery liquid started leaking from the bottom of the jar assembly. After thoroughly cleaning, drying and tightening the area, it still leaked all over the kitchen counter when pouring. When this happened two or three times, I finally completely disassembled the blade/plastic nut gear and cleaned and dried each part. I put it back together and tightened the nut as far as I could without causing any damage and this finally appeared to resolve the problem. Granted, this procedure should probably be done periodically on the unit but it bothers me that just the simple operation of using the blender in a normal fashion can cause parts to shake loose. I hope this doesn't become a safety issue. Oster has been making blenders for decades, I would hope that they would know how to build a safe, dependable appliance.
