(More customer reviews)After five years, the basket in my Mr. Coffee iced tea maker was clogged with buildup from the tea. As such, it didn't drain all the way when it was done brewing, and I'd often end up spilling quite a bit of tea as I removed the basket. This new basket works perfectly and solved my problem.
Please note, however, that the product image is incorrect. The picture (currently) shows a black basket for a drip coffee maker. The actual product is a white basket for iced tea makers models TM30P and TM30PL. Be sure to check the model number on the box or the bottom of your product to make sure this is the right part for you.

Finum Iced Tea Control Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this Finum Iced Tea pitcher after seeing it in a store. I was trying to replace an old style Bodum glass tea pot with steeper(after I broker the glass) that is no longer in production.
I like the Finum pitcher but my only criticism is that the way the steeper sits in the pitcher (up high) doesn't allow the tea to steep as well as it should. This is especially noticeable when there is ice in the pitcher because I think it cools the water down.
I'm using loose tea and still experimenting. What I have found is that it is best to let the tea steep longer or use less ice.

Bodum Biasca 40-Ounce Glass Iced Tea Maker Review

(More customer reviews)Had previously owned the Bodum Ceylon 51oz Iced Tea Pitcher, but the "infuser" was useless from the start and the lid broke after a few uses... so I was excited to see the Biasca Ice Tea Jug as an updated ice tea solution.
First off - please note that this is a COLD BREW iced tea maker which requires 5-6 hours of cold steeping in the fridge. This also means that hot water should never be used. The idea behind a cold brew is to cut down the bitterness or astringency of regular brew iced tea, and also to enhance the more subtle flavors of whichever leaf you're using.
This process and jug produces a very soft, light and delicate iced tea. If you're looking for brisk - keep looking. Even adding heaps of extra tea does not go far in strengthening a cold brew.
Regarding the Biasca, I LOVE the design - my version had a bright green lid and looked fun and modern. The overall size of the jug is also appreciated as it has a small diameter and a comfortable, slim handle. Plus the lid is fantastic - a good rubber seal and a fine mesh that keeps all leaves in the jug and out of your mug. Wonderful!
I wish I could continue enjoying that wonderful design, however, on only my second use, I set a full jug back in the fridge and the bottom two inches of the jug broke off and sent glass and thousands of tiny tea leaves all over my fridge and kitchen floor.
Be warned - this item is extremely fragile! I did not bang or slam the jug against anything, not did I use hot water - and yet it still broke. I'm sure you'll have better luck than I if you understand this going in. Treat it with kid gloves and I'm sure it will be a great iced tea maker for you!
But for me, being that this is the second Bodum tea product that has broken within a few uses, I think I'm calling it a day with their iced tea goods.
As a side note - I'm still a fan of Bodum products. I own many Bodum glasses and a glass teapot and have not had any issues with those even after a few years of use. Just something about their iced tea items....

Hamilton Beach Iced Tea Maker Review

(More customer reviews)For a connoisseur of iced tea such as myself this is a most wonderful gadget, it works so well that I bought a second one just in case anything happens to it then I'll have a replacement.
I have a suggestion to offer about the manufacturer's instructions or for anyone who makes their own iced tea. If you have always had a problem with your tea tasting bitter after you make it then try this, DO NOT ADD ICE BEFORE BREWING as per the mfgs instructions, also never boil water with tea in it, add hot water to your tea, steep for about 3 minutes no longer than 4-5 minutes, or in this case just let the machine handle it, after you brew your tea and remove the loose tea or bags, LET THE PITCHER SET OPEN TOPPED TO AIR OUT FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES. In this time I have found that the bitterness seeps out and the end result is far better tasting tea, much smoother and with less bite. After that add just enough ice to chill then fill to the top line,(Or Lower if not strong enough) with cold water and make it the way you like.
I have always thought that the cafeterias and nice restaurants have made the best tea, but now I have surpassed even the best of restaurants by trying different teas and brewing them together for fabulous flavors. This Hamilton Beach Tea Maker has its own tea strainer built in but you can also remove the strainer and use a regular large round pleated coffee filter in the basket which will make it much easier to dispose of the wet loose tea when you are done brewing.
To start with try 2 tablespoons of Lipton loose tea. Online you can go to TheteaSmith.com and order their flavored blended teas like Subtle Strawberry, Blue Shadow, Refreshing Raspberry and many others, I put a pinch or 2 of all 3 of these flavors in first and then the the 2 Tblspns of Lipton in the coffee filter set the brew dial on strong and follow the above instructions, and get exquisite fruity flavored tea, from here the possibilities are endless...Enjoy.

Mr. Coffee TM75 3 Quart Iced Tea Maker Review

(More customer reviews)I had the old one with the orange top. That one has a top basket to hold the tea bags which incorporates a side lever to plug the bottom drain hole, and an overflow channel so just the last couple of cups steep the tea until you pull the lever to release them. The new one with the blue basket has done away with that lever (I'm guessing to cut costs) and just put a little bit smaller hole at the bottom. They also tell you to use a coffee filter in the basket in addition to the teabags themselves, which after all are little paper filters. This is probably to slow down the run-out of the tea to help it steep it a little bit longer. My favorite combination of bags is one bag or Celestial Seasons Red Zinger, one Lipton Mango, and two Red Rose decaf's. In the old one I would let this combination of tea steep for maybe 10 minutes, and it came out perfectly. Using the same bags with the new one makes *really* tasteless, watery tea.
I just found a new model that makes 3 quarts and has a dial on the front for what they call "brew strength". This is a decided advantage over the other revised model. Also, you get a quart more of tea per cycle. You pour the water directly into the unit, where there is a window on the front with markings for 1, 2 and 3 quarts. The container has markings for how much ice to use for 1, 2 and 3 quarts. This is a better design, IMHO. Also, the pitchers are shorter, so fit in more places in your fridge, and the handles don't attach at the pitcher bottom, so you can nest them for storage. This is a big advantage over the old style. The new one comes with 2 pitchers. You can turn them both upside-down over the base unit to save even more storage space.
My recomendation: don't buy the newer 2 quart blue basket model. Hold out for the 3 quart model. And here's the kicker- I found mine at Wal-Mart for $2.00 less than Target was selling the 2 quart model!
Once you get into the habit of drinking iced tea instead of soda, you'll never go back. The savings in calories, money and hassle of returnable bottles and cans will have you hooked.

(More customer reviews)I honestly do not understand all of the negative reviews for this iced tea maker. My family has tried many and this has been the best. I love the fact that I do not have to use just the pitcher that came with the unit. Sure, they do not mention that in the manual or anything, but you really can line up any pitcher under this thing to receive the tea. True, the glass pitcher that comes with it does seem thin and fragile. However, I do not use it so it is not a concern for me. I wasn't planning on using it when I bought it. I use a completely different shaped, BPA-free pitcher that holds 4 quarts. I fill the tea maker with the required amount of water, lay in the tea bags, and set the strength. I then fill my pitcher with cold water to the required level, add sugar, lime and lemon juice, then press the button. I have tea about 6 to 8 minutes later. I've never had the problem with the machine starting to brew the moment I plug it in.
So - to sum things up: stop locking yourself in with having to use the manufacturer's pitcher (or having to replace it when it breaks, cracks or leaks like I've seen happen so many times with the Mr. Coffee machines). This machine gives you that freedom and it just works - and works well. Not to mention the parts are dishwasher safe. The tea tastes great.

(More customer reviews)I'm so glad I found this tea brewer. I had the Bodum Ceylon brewer for about a year and I would imagine that it's one of the main alternatives to the Takeya.
I'll do a quick comparison:
Durability - honestly, i've only had it for about a month but it's obviously made of better quality, or at least, more durable material. i'm not overly concerned about it breaking. the bodum ceylon i had cracked after using it for about a year and with relatively light usage - as in not every day or even every week of the year. time will tell, but i don't think this is gonna break so easily. the quality feels better in the hand. doesn't feel cheap. Infuser/Filtering ability - the holes on the bodum are large and so smallish leaf or the "dust" gets through quite easily into the brewed tea. the filter on the takeya is very fine and so far i've had clear cups of iced tea. i've been making white tea which has a larger leaf though. i'm thinking that it would do okay with japanese teas which tend have a very fine, almost ground up, leaf. i think takeya is a japanese brand so i would imagine they'd make a brewer that would do a reasonable job on their teas.
the infuser on the bodum though extends the length of the pitcher and so you don't need to fill it up. you would need to fill up the takeya to at least where the tea leaves are in the filter in order to make the tea. you may not want that much and you don't have the option of choosing.Looks - the bodum was nice to look at but the material easily took on a cloudy, not so new looking appearance. it looked old after the first usage. i like the takeya - i like green top since that's my fave color. this particular takeya model is tall so you should take measurements in your fridge to make sure it'll fit wherever you plan to put it. the bodum model is slender which is nice. it slides in easily to narrow areas.Ease of use - the takeya filter/infuser twists into the top/lid. that's very cool. it's very easy. the bodum slides into grooves/tracks on the side of the pitcher. you just have to make sure you get into the grooves; they are easily missed. you also flip this thing at the handle to open the top. the air can also easily access the tea because it's not really closed off. the takeya has a twist open top that will allow you to pour, without excess spillage. and tea stays fresher.BPA - if you care, takeya says it is bpa free. i don't know about bodum. it's not on the description.so, obviously i prefer this one. it's a nice product. i'm looking forward to making more iced tea. i use the cold (no heat) brewing method by the way.

(More customer reviews)I was looking for an ice tea maker with a glass pitcher. Liked the way this one looked. Bought one, worked fine for a few days, then it wouldn't turn on any more. The on button would fail to 'click' and light up, as it had before. Nothing. Thinking maybe I had gotten a lemon, decided to try a replacement since as I mentioned in the title, I really liked it, when it WORKED.
Got the second one, very quickly. I've had it for a few days now. Made about 4 or 5 batches of tea with it. I went to make another one just now and...nothing. It won't turn on just like the first one. I don't know for sure, but I suspect it may have something to do with the automatic shutoff feature. I've tried unplugging and replugging it, but it made no difference, with either one. There is nothing in the instructions to address this. I'm going to call the help center, to see if there's ANYTHING I could be doing different, seeing how it's two of these now that have done this, but at this point, it looks like I'll be requesting a return label for this one as well and sending it back along with the first one I got, only for a refund this time, which is too bad, as I really wanted this to work.
If this can be corrected in any way after I speak with the service department, as to possibly make it work, then I may change my review, but for now, I can only give it the one star for breaking so quickly and failing to function.

Simply pour water into the water reservoir and add the desired amount of tea to the removable brew basket--five to seven bags of tea or 2 to 3 tablespoons of loose tea work well when brewing a full pitcher; sugar, lemon, and other flavorings can also be added to the brew basket for customized results. Then fill the pitcher with ice cubes to the ice-level marking and insert into the machine, close the top lid, and push the "on" button. The water heats up and steeps the tea in the brew basket, then hot tea drips down into the pitcher of ice. At the end of the brewing cycle, the machine shuts off automatically for safety and peace of mind. Other highlights include a power indicator light, a water window in the reservoir for accurate filling, an adjustable brew strength, and a permanent filter for use with loose tea. (More customer reviews)This makes good iced tea, but the design leaves a lot to be desired. The handle is at the top, so when full I need two hands to lift it - not balanced well at all. Also, the diffuser is not anchored in any way, so it floats around the pitcher when you are filling with water. Oh, and the worst, most annoying part is that the top won't stay open. The slightest touch makes it slam shut. Just hard to handle overall.
