Sunbeam 3156 Heritage 6-Speed Hand Mixer Review

Living in rural Maine, about the only place around here to get a hand mixer is WalMart. I was very unimpressed with the quality of the mixers that our store carried. I bought my last mixer there, and it didn't last a year. I have other Sunbeam products--an iron, a breadmaker--and have been pleased with their performance. I read a lot of the reviews here on Amazon before ordering my mixer. I agree with what most people say about it. It was well worth the price. It is a nice handling mixer, has good balance, and doesn't feel cheap. It has plenty of power to do anything that I need it for. I don't think I've even used the highest setting yet. The biggest test for any mixer I use is a big batch of chocolate chip cookies. This will work one up with ease. The only reason I hesitate to give it a five star rating is the fact that I haven't had it for a long time yet. If it lasts, it will be worth a 5.

After 2 weeks of minimal use, this piece of garbage literally broke apart at it's base. One would think with the name of Oster you would get something that lasts longer than Madonna's current affected accent, but this was not the case. Avoid my friends, avoid!

The Pampered Chef 2 Quart (Qt) Quick Stir Pitcher Review

This is the best mixing picture I have tried. I also tried the dr browns and it does not mix formula near as fast. not even a competition. I used it every day for 4 months or so when it finally snapped. the up and down motion flexes the clear plastic and eventually makes it weak enough to crack. you can buy a replacement handle for over half the price of the entire thing.
I see the info also has a white top. i had the clear top. I wonder if thats why they changed it to use a more flexible type of plastic.
for occasional use or you just need the best mixing action possible with risk of breaking, i would highly recommend this.

Vitamix CIA Professional Countertop Blender with 2+ HP Motor, Platinum Review

I have had my platinum Vita-Mix 1363 CIA (Culinary Institute of America) model blender for just over a month. So far, I am loving it! I have definitely increased my consumption of fruits and vegetables since getting it. I start most mornings off with a smoothie now. I throw in whatever fruit is in season (I love berries, but I've used peaches, nectarines, plums, grapes, apples, bananas and various frozen fruits), a scoop or two of protein powder, milk or water, a couple handfuls of fresh spinach, a couple handfuls of ice and sweetener if needed. Surprisingly, the spinach doesn't noticeably change the flavor, but it does boost the nutritional content of the smoothie. In less than 10 minutes I can have my smoothie made, poured into a "to go" cup and have the machine all clean (just add warm water and a couple drops of dish soap- turn it on for 30 seconds, then empty and rinse the container). The smoothies always turn out 100% smooth- berry seeds, apple seeds, ice and other hard bits are totally pulverized and drinkable. I've made great low-cal salad dressings using fresh herbs, garlic, low fat cottage cheese, a splash of milk and salt (if you prefer, you could use Ranch dressing mix with cottage cheese and milk). I made a very satisfying tomato soup with home grown tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, onion and salt. I've made great blended piña coladas, too! I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with different recipes. Because the Vita-Mix processes foods quickly, I'm actually finding that I'm making healthier eating choices. It's faster for me to put together a salad with pre-washed greens, veggies and homemade dressing than it is to go to the nearest fast food restaurant... and in the end, it's more satisfying and a LOT healthier. Yes, this is an expensive machine, but I think it will pay for itself within the first two years by reducing my spending on going out to eat.
This is a heavy-duty machine. It is loud when it's in use, but generally you won't need to run the machine for more than a couple minutes at a time. This is definitely a professional quality machine and will yield professional quality results. A regular home blender cannot compare!
The Vita-Mix 1363 CIA model and the Vita-Mix 5200 model are essentially the same machine. The CIA model has some different color choices and comes with a HUGE recipe book called "Create", a smaller "recipes and techniques" booklet and an hour long cooking class DVD. The 5200 model includes a different booklet and DVD. Both have the same 7-year warranty. If the color of the machine and the recipe book don't matter to you, save yourself some $$$ and go for the 5200 model instead.

Hamilton Beach Classic DrinkMaster Drink Mixer Review

A few lines should have been added to the product description: "This unit is made of plastic. It's not as powerful as the original soda shop unit. It's smaller and has less capacity than the real thing. The bottom is not weighted and the unit is inclined to tip over when first turned on with shake ingredients in cup. Can be easily knocked over when inserting the cup into the unit". For the price, it's okay ... it does make a great shake. But the description of "like the original" is far from teh truth.

KitchenAid Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer Review

KitchenAid Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer

(More customer reviews)
I already own a 5 Qt mixer from the "Artisan Series" but decided to upgrade to this model so that I could make larger batches of bread dough. For my recipe, a single batch is 2 cups of bread flour. I tried making a double batch (4 cups) in my new Pro 600, but after about 15 min. of kneading, the motor just turned off. I thought I had burned it out, but after consulting the instruction manual, it seems this is normal. Normal?! Yes, that's what it said--all I needed to do was wait for the motor to cool off (it's also "normal" for it to get so hot it is uncomfortable to touch) for 30 min. and then try again. I find it hard to believe that this mixer could make bread with 14 cups of AP flour, as the box says. Having said that, here are my thoughts on this mixer vs. the "Artisan Series" mixer I already own:1. The motor consumes over 50% more electricity (and is certainly more noisy) in the pro 600, but how much of that is being converted to extra torque, I'm not really sure. What I do know is that I can only do a single batch of bread at a time in either mixer.
2. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the Artisan mixer came with a "coated" paddle and dough hook, whereas the pro 600 has "Brandished steel". This means the Artisan's implements are dishwasher safe but the pro 600's are not. I had assumed those bright, shiny implements that I saw in the store display were stainless steel, but I guess not. If it weren't for this problem and the huge price tag, I would have given this mixer 5 stars.
On the plus side...
3. I love the new spiral dough hook--it is much better than the C shaped one in my Artisan
4. The soft start feature is a nice touch. Then again, it would be even nicer if there was a speed lower than the lowest one provided.
5. The larger bowl is nice
6. There is more of a difference between speeds 7-10 than the Artisan
Things I'd like to see changed in the next iteration:
--A gear box. I have a cordless drill that has a high and low gear. As could be expected, low is for more power, high is for more speed. Why don't these mixers use a simple gear selector like that? This would be a HUGE improvement--it would not only provide more power, but the lower speed I would like, as mentioned in point 4.
--Stainless steel implements as mentioned in point #2
CONCLUSION:
A very nice mixer, but so is my "Artisan". If you are going to buy a new mixer (and don't have an unlimited supply of money to throw at it), I wouldn't recommend the Pro 600--get one from the Artisan series instead--it is much cheaper and does just about as good a job. There are small advantages to the Pro 600, but even all together, I don't think they are worth the added price.

Designed with all-metal construction and a 6-quart capacity, this powerful stand mixer features a 575-watt motor for handling tough mixing jobs. It can effectively mix up to 14 cups of all-purpose flour and produce up to 8 pounds of mashed potatoes. The mixer can also churn through double batches of bread dough with the included burnished PowerKnead spiral hook, which replicates hand kneading with a forceful punching and rolling action. The mixer's 10-speed slide control ranges from a very fast whip to a very slow stir, while its Soft Start mixing function helps minimize ingredient splatter and flour puff with gentle acceleration to the selected speed after start-up. An electronic speed sensor helps maintain a consistent mixing speed, even when adding ingredients. For commercial-style motor protection, the mixer automatically shuts off when overload is detected.
The mixer includes a 6-quart-capacity stainless-steel mixing bowl with a contoured handle, as well as a professional wire whip, a burnished flat beater, a spiral dough hook, and a pouring shield. Its multipurpose attachment hub with a hinged hub cover flips open to allow for easy installation of attachments. The unit's professional bowl-lift design raises the bowl into the mixing position, and its solid, truly seamless one-piece motor head design cleans easily. The mixer features a premium satin-pearl custom finish that adds an elegant shimmer to any countertop. Available in a variety of fashionable colors, the stand mixer measures 14-3/5 by 16-1/2 by 11-2/7 inches and carries a one-year hassle-free replacement warranty.
