(More customer reviews)I purchased a set of Whiskey Stones for my brother who is a big single malt whiskey drinker. On occasion, I have used them myself.
They take a long time to get cold and you'll need to leave them in the freezer for several hours before they reach their peak cold temperature.
The stones will not make your drink as cold as ice will and you may be initially disappointed by that if you are used to drinking your liquor with ice. However, they will keep your drink nice and cool for a surprisingly long time - longer than the duration that ice will typically melt to water. It can keep your drink cool for 45 minutes to an hour.
This definitely changes the flavor you experience, in a good way, as it keeps the drink consistently strong from beginning to end without watering down the drink. It makes nice, high quality liquors a pleasure to enjoy as each sip is as good and undiluted as the first one.
There are only a few minor issues with the Whiskey Stones. The box recommends 3 to 4 per drink, but that may not be enough depending on the volume that you pour. I've used up 7 in a 1 cup glass that is nearly full in order to feel the full effect of the stones.
Make sure to thoroughly wash them after use. Rinse with water and let it air dry. They dry surprisingly quickly! The stones are slightly porous and if they are not washed well they may contain traces of your previous drink and alter the taste of the new drink you add them to. Also, this isn't really a fault of the product, but avoid sticking them near Cod or other strong smelling fish as they will leave a residual taste of it. You will need to very, very thoroughly wash them to get rid of the taste!
