(More customer reviews)I was given one of these about a year ago, I tried it briefly and it's been collecting dust in my closet ever since. It does chill wine. In fact, it does it pretty well. Unfortunately, it also has inside it a loud fan which is always on. Picture a quiet evening for two, a candlelight dinner and this gizmo sitting nearby that looks like a miniature nuclear power plant cooling tower and sounds like a hair dryer and you can see the problem with this thing. It's just too darn noisy! Also rather ugly, imo. A more pleasant solution would be to keep the wine in one of those wrap-around gel packs for chilling wine that you keep in the freezer until needed.

(More customer reviews)As of late, my husband has decided he likes ALL wine chilled - white AND red. It has driven me crazy watching him plop ice cubes into his glass of red wine. When I saw the Ravi Instant Wine Chiller at Amazon.com Ravi Instant Wine Chiller, I knew my prayers were answered! The Ravi chills wine perfectly. However, the Ravi is a little more complicated than it looks. It consists of 3 parts. The inner cartridge remains in the freezer so it's always ready to chill wine. It can chill many glasses of wine at a time. The drawback is that before you put it back in the freezer (regardless of whether you have filled/chilled 20 glasses of wine, or only 1, the Ravi must be taken apart, cleaned, and the cartridge dried before putting it back in the freezer. Because of this, my husband does not want to be bothered with it. As long as I am the one putting it together, taking it apart, washing, drying, and freezing it, my husband is happy.

I don't know that it's going to instantly cool a room temperature bottle in 5 minutes, but you can go from cellar temperature to serving temperature pretty quickly. It will keep a chilled bottle of champagnge cold for quite a while and it has the advantage of not making the bottle wet (as a traditional champagne bucket will) and there's no condensation out the outside. All in all, it works well and maintains a neat serving environment.

Happily, it also never fails to chill your potables to the core. Be warned, however, that you will consume a lot of ice in the process. (Since this device does not actually perform any refrigeration, you provide a mixture of water and ice which it cascades over the spinning container. The ice melts completely after only a few chilled cans, or one bottle of wine.)
Another caveat, which may not have mattered to those in the engineering lab, is that this thing is hell on paper labels, what with the constant water, and the traction from the rubber wheels. You may then choose not to spin the bottle, but it will take approximately twice as long to chill your beverage.
Such is life.

Waring Pro PC100 Wine Chiller Review

(More customer reviews)The problem isn't with the unit taking a long time to chill a bottle of wine, the problem is that it doesn't chill a bottle of wine.
I put a bottle of room temperature Chablis in, and selected Chablis from the list of white wines. The unit said it would chill it to 46 degrees, and indicated that the starting temp was 77. That was my first concern, because the bottle was room temperature, and room temp was 70. The unit took more than 30 minutes to get the bottle to the desired temp (according to the units thermostats), but when I opened the bottle, the wine was probably a bit warmer than a pinot should be served at. I turned the unit off, placed the bottle back in (using the accompanying sleeve both time, btw), and this time the starting temp read 61 degrees. In other words, it disagreed with itself...
Soo...I chilled it again, for another 20 minutes, and upon reaching 46 (again) the bottle was no cooler than it was before.
I don't understand how these are selling. They are probably good for bringing room temp reds down to the appropriate serving level, but this simply does not chill white, rose, or sparkling wines to the desired temperature. So it's great, I suppose, for someone who doesn't have a wine refrigerator, or a cellar, but who wants to drink red wines at the appropriate temperature. It's terrible for anything other than that.
This is as disappointed as I've ever been with a product before.

-Easy to Use: Although there are quite a few pieces that make up the Ravi Solution, it is actually very easy to use.
-Effective: Instantly drops the temperature of any wine by 10F-15F bringing it to a more enjoyable drinking temperature.
-Versatile: Useful in the summer months when red wines at room temperature approach 80F (to bring them down to the mid-60s) -or- if you have a single temperature wine refrigerator set at 55F to drop the temperature down to around 45F.
Cons:
-A little pricey: This is definitely a convenience item and similar results can be attained with a little time in the fridge. However, I've found it quite useful and I'm glad I own one.

A simple, efficient, instant, and easily portable wine cooler, the Ravi does away with the need for ice buckets or refrigeration. Simply insert the Ravi into the bottle neck as you would a cork, and pour. The wine is chilled instantly as it passes through an inner, frozen stainless-steel tube. (More customer reviews)It's funny, the different experiences people have with the same products. Now, this review is for the Blender Express, not the "Plus." The only difference is the attachments. My wife picked up a couple of these at Wally World after Christmas (2005). They were in a clearance cart for [...] each. I figured that they were probably pretty cheap and I'd have a backup after I burned the first one up. Well, a little over a year later, I'm still using the first one. I use it 3-4 times a week for smoothies and frozen coffee drinks. I have to say that I really abuse the little guy. My coffee drinks call for half of the mug to be filled with crushed ice.
It will make these drinks with a minimum of "crunchy" ice particles and they are quite enjoyable. I never expected it to last this long because, truthfully, from day one, I have been able to notice the "burned wire" odor coming from the unit as I continuosly overload the mug. Yet, it is still chugging along. Even at the full price, a year of this type of useage certainly makes it a good value. And, cleanup is extremely easy and the "make it and run" mug is really handy. Of course, for larger quantities, I fall back on the larger blender. If I ever do wear out both of these units, I would not hesitate to purchase another.
UPDATE: 7/10/2009
Just wanted to add this note. Two and a half years after the above review (makes the unit three-odd years old), we're still using it!!! It still makes the smoothest frozen drinks. I guess we really got lucky with this one. I can't even remember where we put the second one! :)
