This snow shovel is heavier than I expected it to be. The other 2 that I have are much lighter, one is a cheap plastic shovel with a lighter wood shaft, the other is an ergonomic shovel with a hard plastic shaft.
The flaw is in the metal edge design. Because it is simply bolted on to the underside of the plastic shovel, there are spaces in between where the snow can get in. Shoveling more snow will compress the trapped snow and cause it to turn into ice and thereby causing the metal edge to become more separated from the plastic shovel. The manufactured seems to have tried to take this into account by having a arch in the metal for the excess ice to go, but when there is too much ice, the arch becomes full and cannot move the ice to the sides anymore. This causes more ice to accumulate in between and further forcing the metal and the plastic apart.
The shovel overall is still usable, just that the flaw will cause it to have a shorter life.
A much better design would have been for the metal edge to be folded, allowing it be both on the top and the bottom so that the snow would not be pressed into the gap.
I have tried looking for such a shovel but have not found one yet. I guess it costs too much manufacture. But technically I could just buy a sheet of metal, cut and fold it, then attach it using an epoxy.

This push blade snow shovel is ideal for anyone who has arthritis and cannot lift a shovel full of snow. It also removes 30" of snow at one time which shortens the time you are out there shoveling the driveway or sidewalk in front of your house.

Sno Wovel W0208 Wheeled Snow Shovel Review

Sno Wovel W0208 Wheeled Snow Shovel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Today's 8" storm officially heralded in my second season using the Wovel, and I was reminded exactly how remarkable this silly-looking contraption is.
My house is one of four homes on a very small private street. Since we're responsible for our own snow removal, we co-own a large snow blower and take turns clearing the street. My three neighbors also use the blower to clear their driveways. As for myself, I don't particularly like the loud, polluting blower. Since I've always looked at shoveling as excellent exercise, I would typically reach for the shovel to handle my own driveway.
Although I'm pretty fit, I do suffer from occasional acute lower back episodes. For this reason, my wife picked up a Wovel as a holiday gift for me last season.
The first time I used it, I was amazed at how large a swath of 8" deep snow I could clear with a single scoop. I estimated at that time that the volume of snow I was clearing with one Wovel scoop was equivalent to around 5 scoops of a normal shovel. The factors that make this possible: 1.) the shovel portion of the Wovel is huge; 2.) the lever action of the Wovel allows you to lift and toss *a lot* of weight with minimal effort. The combined effect is that the shovel portion of the Wovel, which is large to begin with, can be used to lift and toss a pile of snow that is not just wide, but is also piled much higher than you would ever attempt with a conventional shovel.
I've seen some reviewers state that the Wovel is more effective than a snow blower. In my opinion, this depends on the snow blower in question, the area you're clearing and the snow conditions.
The street I have to clear is several hundred feet long. The Wovel is pretty cool, but at the end of the day, it's still a shovel; you have to stop clearing momentarily as you toss a load. Since the snow blower can clear and toss simultaneously, it can clear a path down the length of the street without stopping (i.e. it has a superior "duty cycle").If I were dealing with perhaps 5" or less of lighter snow, I could probably clear the street faster with the Wovel than the blower ... but this is probably true of a conventional shovel as well, since you can "plow" light amounts of snow with a conventional shovel. But once you start getting into larger accumulations or wetter, heavier snow, the blower is going to win: the heavier the snow, the greater the blower's advantage.
Now it might be a different story if we're talking about a typical driveway instead of a street. My driveway is maybe 40 feet long. Although the blower has the advantage I described earlier, it also has overhead: it has to be physically turned around, and the "blast gate" probably needs to be rotated to throw the snow where you want it. My driveway isn't long enough to significantly exploit the blower's superior duty cycle. If you combine this with the fact that the Wovel is more nimble, then I would say that I will probably clear the driveway faster with the Wovel, perhaps even with heavier or deeper snow. *But*, if the snow is heavily crusted, packed, or slushy, then the blower again starts to gain the edge.
The Wovel does have some limitations. For example, you won't be using it to clear the stairs on your front porch. Also, you cannot effectively thrust and "slice" into snow. So, if you allow the snow that gets piled at the end of your driveway by the passing street plows to sit long enough to become hard, you'll probably need a conventional shovel to tackle it. (If you get to it right away though, the Wovel is an absolute God send. I cleared a knee-deep pile such as this from the end of our private road today in 30 seconds flat.)
Also, there is a slight learning curve in determining the most efficient pattern to use on your driveway. The Wovel is most effective when the snow can be thrown directly ahead of you. For this reason, it isn't practical to move in long straight lines, nor do you want to have to pivot to throw the snow off to one side. The best approach is to move in diagonal lines relative to the length of your driveway. I won't attempt to describe this further, but the Wovel includes a video that covers this concept in detail.
Lastly, although the Wovel does provide you with the mechanical advantage of a fulcrum and lever system, you are still using muscle power. If you decide to push yourself, you will find that you'll be getting a workout. That said however, it is still much easier than using a conventional shovel (I estimate I can clear a typical snowfall from my driveway in roughly one-third the time), and it is far, FAR easier on your back. I might have fatigued lats and shoulders after finishing with it, but I never experience any back discomfort whatsoever ... and as I mentioned, I have chronic lower back issues.
Oh, one more thing that is very minor ... and maybe this is just me: The Wovel might look a little gimmicky to some ... perhaps even downright silly. I do feel a little like the neighborhood "geeky eccentric professor" when I'm using it. Passers-by do often cast wry smiles, or make amused comments. But trust me, any initial skepticism disappears rapidly when they see it in action.

I also thought the shovel realy shoveled nice, I took real good care of it I didn't want it to crack or chip, I only shoveled snow, never scraped.Today I started shoveling and there was a crack in the corner, so you know it's not long for this world. If I can find a replacement part I will give it 6 stars. I am shovling 100 foot of driveway so it did get a work out, but it only lasted 2 years.

There's not much I can really rave about as far as a snow shovel goes, but this one is built very well, is sturdy and strong, features a nice front edge, and has worked wonderfully for me and my family. I have not seen any other shovels on the market that are as solid and nice as this one, especially for the price. We own two of them and can rely on them in even the heaviest Utah winters!

Garant YSP30L Yukon 30-Inch Steel Blade Snow Pusher Varnished Ash Handle, Blue Review

Garant YSP30L Yukon 30-Inch Steel Blade Snow Pusher Varnished Ash Handle, Blue

This is one tough snow shovel. It's heavy gauge steel with a strong wood handle. But, it's really only good for pushing snow around. Use this to push the snow along concrete or asphalt and then if you need to pile snow up, use something else. My last driveway was up against the house and I shared it with the next door neighbor. I had to push most snow the length of the house before I could pile it up. This saved a lot of time. On my new drive I can just push the snow off to each side - a task this shovel is ideal for. I use two shovels; this one to push the snow around and an aluminum "feed and grain" style shovel to move piles. Give it a shot of silicone spray before shoveling and the wet snow will peel right off. Much quieter than a blower and good exercise as well.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that the rivets started to loosen after the first season - but after retightening them, everything is fine. You should also give it a coat of primer to keep any bare metal from rusting at season's end.

Given how much it costs, I am fairly dissapointed in this shovel. I shouldn't be surprised that it requires assembly, but that is something that they did not mention. I have plenty of tools, so it wasn't a problem for me. You will need a phillips screwdriver to assemble this, but I would strongly recommend that you also have a power drill (there are no pre-drilled holes for the 2 screws that attach the handle to the base) and 2 wrenches (to attach the base to the plow). Once assembled, it feels quite sturdy, but the plastic on the plow is much softer than on my other shovels. After just one push I could already see that it had worn down. I know this won't last long. I think I'll be lucky if it lasts for more than 2 years. You will be hard pressed to find a shovel that is wider than this one, but I would advise that you save your money and buy one that isn't quite as wide and that is either made of a stronger plastic or that has a steel tip. Either way, you should be able to find something that will work better and hopefully cost less.

I can't believe I didn't read the reviews before buying. I'm 6'3" tall and as other tall people have mentioned, this shovel does not work well for tall people. I had a pan shovel several years ago that worked great. It had a bigger pan, was about 8 to 10 inches wider, had wooden runners on the bottom and the handle was longer and at the right angle. It was about the same width as a sidewalk so one trip was all it took. Because the Suncast shovel is smaller, you have to make more trips up and down a sidewalk and you have to empty it much more often. And if you're taller, you have to bend much further to get it out where you empty it, especially when the snow starts to pile up. I wouldn't recommend this shovel for anyone over about 5'8" tall.

This shovel is defiantly a must have. It is so much easier on your back than a standard shovel. Don't get me wrong. When you have to shovel 75 feet of driveway you can still get a little sore, but you're not constantly bending over as with a straight shovel and killing your back. It works great when using it to push the snow to the side too and again that is easier than with a standard shovel. A big plus is that the snow - even wet snow - did not stick to the blade at all. I highly recommend this shovel.

I got this yesterday and tried it out today. It is lightweight and not as hard on my arms and back as my other shovel which was a combination shovel/pusher and more curved. I am a 61 year old female and this shovel made the work less bothersome. Of course I always wear my back brace and wrist braces. We had 2 feet of snow back to back. Glad I purchased this shovel. I've had mine for a few winters now, and I've only had two minor issues with it:
1) the edge has worn down over time, since there is no metal guard like other models
2) depending on the type of snow, sometimes it sticks to the shovel, but I remedy that by spraying non-stick cooking spray on the shovel every now and then
Even though I have a few different types of shovels, I use this one the most. I have a long driveway with a wide end, and two long sidewalks to keep clear; this shovel makes it easy to get the job done without destroying my back like a metal shovel.
Afterwards, I recommend a cup of Swiss Miss Holiday Cocoa, 5 Assorted Flavors, 4-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 2).

Winter is coming full-force in Upstate NY and I was happy to find such a great, sturdy and ergonomic shovel on Amazon.
This shovel is strong and easy to use. The handle is wide enough to accommodate a thick ragg wool glove with ease. The wear strip is a nice extra when shoveling ice and hitting blacktop or concrete. I have a much cheaper shovel and don't trust it half as much as this one. The ergo design does help your back when lifting and pushing.
If you need a shovel and are thinking about it, buy this one -- it's great for fluffy and slushy snow. The capacity is pretty large -- so be mindful of your back.

Thought was going to be a good item. When it arrived I opened up and was really not happy at all with the quality of this item.
It is basically a hollow tube open at the top and bottom. Additionally the blade is a joke, it is about 1/8 of an inch thick and is blunt, no edge to it at all.
I would not recommend this at all. It will be returned, the only thing this could cut through is room temperature butter.
A worthless piece of metal for handling snow and ice in the winter.
