Cubette Mini Ice Cube Trays Review

I honestly loved these ice trays until 2 months after purchase. They worked great, and aside from the 90 second rule when pulling them out of the freezer, they were wonderful. Until the 2 month mark, when in the same day, the handles on both trays busted. Pretty disappointing, since there aren't alot of choices out there for small ice trays for us ice chewer addicts. I've switched back to my Arrow Plastic 00055 Ice Cube Trays, because they are durable enough to make it through anything!

Get ready to "chill-out" with these cute mini ice cube trays ! The 1/2 inch cubettes are great for crunching and can be used in place of crushed ice for mixed drinks and bottled water. The little cubes chill drinks faster and more evenly because of exposure to more cooling surface area. Because of their small size, they also freeze faster. Just "rinse and twist"* over a wide container and the 90 little cubettes are perfectly released.

Oxo 34881 Good Grips Ice Cube Tray Review

Every other Good Grips product I own was designed thoughtfully: they're high quality, attractive, and very easy to use. Unfortunately, this ice cube tray is an exception on every count.
The single biggest problem with this product is the tray cover. OXO started with a good idea: use a cover to keep the cubes fresh and to make it easy to remove just the cubes you want. Unfortunately, this tray's cover is so poorly designed that it's not nearly worth the trouble.
First, it's very difficult to remove the cover to get your ice cubes out. The cover supposed to slide off easily, but it usually gets stuck, because it doesn't fit properly and because little bits of ice easily obstruct the path.
Getting cubes out is bad enough, but the cover is even worse when you're filling the tray. Again, because it doesn't fit very well, it requires a lot of force to push the cover on. Inevitably, you'll have to force it into place and end up splashing a lot of the water out of the cube compartments. This makes your cubes smaller, and the splashed water freezes into little bits of ice that make the cover harder to get off later.
As for asthetics, the tray isn't as good as other OXO products either. It's missing their signature black-rubber grips and offers little else in return.
So, my recommendation is to wait for version 2 before you leap for this product. But, in the meantime, check out other Good Grips products. Fortunately, this product's poor design is an exception for OXO.

Innovative and ever finding of solutions, OXO impresses again with their Good Grips ice cube tray. Like other trays, you need simply fill it with water and freeze to make ice. However, what really sets this tray apart from its peers is the cover tray; not only does it guard the ice cubes from resists odors, but you can partially slide it off to choose the number of cubes you want. Once you have made you selection, turn the tray over to dump the cubes out. This system allows you, guests, family, and friends to quickly remove the desired amount of ice. It is recommended you close the tray before freezing on the counter top, for stability and to help avoid spills.
OXO was founded on the philosophy of Universal Design, which is the concept of designing products that are easy to use for the largest possible spectrum of users. In the case of OXO, it means designing products for young and old, male and female, left- and right- handed and many with special needs. These ergonomically- designed, trans-generational tools set a new standard for the industry and raised the bar of consumer expectation for comfort and performance.

I started out buying two of these after reading the reviews challenging the durability of this ice tray. Since I had a few extra bucks to get to the free supersaving shipping, I figured I might as well get two just in case I break one. I am glad that i bought two, but not because I broke one. I have found that if you just gently flex the ice cube trays, 95% of the ice cubes seem to come out quite easily. When I still has 2 or 3 that wouldn't move I hit the tray against the ice cube holder and they came out pretty easily. I don't know what these other guys were doing exactly when they broke them. I mean i could see how you can easily break these if you don't pay attention, but i was able to feel how much give the trays had in their flexibility. Maybe they just got stuck on getting one out that was particularly stubborn, but when that happens i simply left it and refilled with it in and it usually came out the second time. They are fairly thick trays and the lip around the top does a really go job of preventing any spills from the sink to the freezer. Anyways, as I mentioned earlier, I am glad I bought two. I go through enough Ice to where I need two to keep a consistent full stock of ice.
