Depending on the temperature of the whiskey when you pour it and how many stones you use, they will keep your drink at a pleasant temperature. The only real limitation is the number of the stones that is recommended to use: 3. If you have a wide enough glass, four works, too, but you should not put too much whiskey in the glass. 1-2 fingers only, as drowning the soapstones will only result in a minor change in temperature.
