17 year old KitchenAid side-by-side. Noticed water on floor, and ice maker not working. Searched web, diagnosed problem, as probably the "water dual valve". New fridge - big bucks. Called repair service - big bucks for old fridge. Answer, fix it myself, nothing to lose! Priced part at dealer - $60. Went on Amazon, found part for small bucks. Shipped fast. Instructions clear, thorough, but print too small, installation went well. Runs like new for $22.
One helpful hint. When this valve stops working, the ice maker water supply will often freeze. When you start up the unit after installing the new valve the ice maker may not work. If this occurs remove the ice collector, reach in, pull out the tube that delivers the water and melt the ice in it. Also if you have a hair blow dryer, heat the connector where the tube connects thru the back of the fridge, it may be frozen solid. I did this and it did the trick, runs like new.
Not bad for a 67 year old retired guy.

If you're planning on using this thing for anything other than making ice, you may be disappointed.
This valve can only be cycled "on" for six seconds before needing three minutes time off, otherwise it overheats and becomes useless.
GE abbreviates seconds as " (as in cartography) on their part, but spells out minutes. Both I and an electrician friend assumed that the " was just a typo and that it just needed three minutes downtime for every six minutes it was on. Not true. The part lasted about three minutes before dying.
So, if you have plans of a gravity-fed plant-watering system that just needs one 1/4" tube fitting solenoid to work properly, this is not your part. If you need something for your GE refrigerator's ice-maker, I'm sure you'll be as happy with this thing's performance.

Must cut retaining nut off of existing plastic water line and gently push it into new valve. To remove, depress ring into which the tube slides. Replaces part number WR57X110.

After researching causes for not getting water through the door I had ruled out the line being frozen. My tests showed that the relay on this valve was getting energized yet there was barely a trickle of water coming out so I assumed the valve needed replacing. A new valve did not solve the problem. The root cause was the fitting that holds the water filter. One of the tubes leading into the fitting was plugged, preventing filtered water from reaching the valve I had tested.

I *try* and do as many DIY projects that I can and after replacing my actual ice maker, water still wasn't being sent up through the tubes - I figured that I needed a new valve. I found this valve on Amazon - great deal on price and the seller had good reviews. The seller is wonderful, shipping was extremely fast and packaging was ideal. The installation was incredibly easy - just take out the old and hook up the new. I was hoping this new part would solve my problems and so I anxiously watched/listened for the pump sound and sure enough...water was shooting down the ice maker tube and now my ice maker runuth over!!!!!
