Oster 14 Speed Blender Review

After about 20 uses, the plastic bottom cap broke. Unfortunately, it broke off when the blender was full of hot onion cream that it took me an hour to make. So I almost killed myself and had to clean the kitchen for half hour. Nice, huh? It's a pity because everything else seems high quality, engine, blades, glass cup etc.. Really a pity.

KitchenAid 5-Speed Custom Metallic Blenders Review

I have owned a lot of blenders and this one is very impressive. I was tempted to give it 4 stars as it is not the best blender I have ever owned. That distinction goes to the Vita-Mix which has a nuclear reactor for a base, sounds like a Harley and cost as much as a microwave but if you need a blender that can crush anything and make flour and HOT soup....well....but back to the KitchenAid.
First it looks great. As a home chef, having a sleek modern looking kitchen is important. Second it is easy to clean... I will never own a push button (i.e. old Oster-type) blender again. Nor one with a multi piece jar. One leak can and has ruined an evening or party, as you run to grab paper towel and dish clothes to control the margarita or soup that is running across your counter and down your cabinets. Then the fun of cleaning your blender nooks begin....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Now the really impressive part. I have owned a Waring for years. Everyone always raves about it and if you have a thin liquid, it works great. But for crushing ice and making smoothies, it just flat out sucks. So I sought out an ice crushing (margaritas), sealed jar (gravies/soups), lightweight, large capacity (parties), easy touch (easy to clean), piece of art. The KitchenAid is all those things and has a logic built in that controls the blade speed. It knows how well it is crushing the ice and modulates the motor to ensure an even snow like texture that is incredible. The same system is also built into the other modes, measuring resistance to step the motor up, then back it down to ensure smooth results.
This is my first KitchenAid product, but it will not be my last. BRAVO

Cuisinart BFP-10CH PowerBlend Duet Blender and Food Processor, Chrome and Black Review

We bought this blender/processor combo in February, but were a little nervous given some of the other reviews. But, a friend was using this as a drink blender at a party and raved about it. So, we bought it and thought we'd try it for a while before writing a review. So far, after pretty steady use, we love it. The ice crusher is terrific. The blender handles large capacity well. Everything has come out great.
So, how do we answer the cons that others point out? First, the noise. Uh, blenders are noisy. This doesn't seem to be any worse than any others we've owned--it's about the same as any other I've owned (Krupps, Oster). Then, the question of an oder--there was a slight oily smell when we first started using it, but that is long gone now. Yes, the food processor part is small, this is a combo unit. They are small on all combo units. And it's larger than the Krupps combo processor, for that matter the blender is larger too! Some don't care for the look. That's esthetic, and up to you. You see the picture, either you like the way it looks or you don't. I personally don't care too much, I keep it in a cabinet anyway.
All in all, we find this is a great buy. We don't need a full-size processor, this small one is perfect for what we use it for. And the blender is large and handles everything we've thrown at it; drinks, smoothies, soups, pestos, etc etc. You are not going to do better for this price.

Oster 10-Speed Blender - White Review

This blender does crush ice and makes my smoothies with ease (the recipe's in my book, Feeding the Kids!). I have even ground coffee with the blender a few times. Its motor is holding up well after around 2 years of heavy usage and washings in the dishwasher.
The other review mentioned leaking. The blender only leaks when you put the rubber gasket on below the blade attachment. It's an easy mistake to make--and an easy mistake to correct. There is a note engraved on the blade attachment showing just where to put the gasket, but it's not very noticeable unless you look for it.
My main complaint is that the lid of the blender is very poorly made and warped in the dishwasher. Also, the middle part of the lid fell into the blender and was pureed into my soup while I was blending it. That's a major design flaw. The lid is the main reason I give this product 3 stars.
Update: It finally died after about 4 years of fairly heavy usage. The motor still works, but the stem that spins snapped off. I did have to replace the rubber gasket, blades, lid and glass jar (my fault, I dropped it) over the years--but still, an OK blender for the price.

Waring Professional Bar Blenders Review

I bought it based on other reviews, after our previous blender broke. We use it to make smoothies with frozen fruit. Our last blender was a Black & Decker from Target for $40. Both the B&D and the Waring have glass bowls and stainless steel bases. But the B&D has a larger capacity and a heavier, larger base. The Waring is 300 watts and the cheaper B&D is rated at 500 watts. The next surprise was reading the instructions for the Waring. There is no mention of putting the container bowl in a dishwasher; instead one is supposed to 1) brush out with soapy water, 2) run for 2 minutes with more soapy water, 3) rinse for another 2 minutes, and finally 4) dry with a towel. Next surprise: according to the instructions, the blender should never be operated without holding one's hand on the top. There's a reason for this: the blender tends to "walk" around the countertop (something the B&D, with its larger base, never did). Fortunately, with a full load the Waring stays in place. We decided to ignore the instructions and place the blender bowl in the dishwasher. But the metal fitting under the glass bowl (looks like aluminum) seems to be reacting to the dishwasher detergent by breaking out in white dots. We're hopeful that this metal fitting will be a lot stronger than the plastic screw-on fitting on the B&D, which cracked after 9 months' daily use. Bottom line: the B&D's weak point is its plastic, screw-off base for the impeller. If the Waring with its metal, non-removable impeller fitting stands the test of time it will have been worth the higher price.
UPDATE ON APRIL 1, 2006: The Waring has worked flawlessly in daily use for over four months now. I would give it 4 stars now instead of 3 (but Amazon won't let me change the rating).
FURTHER UPDATE ON JANUARY 2007: It keeps plugging along, making daily smoothies without complaint. The bowl has survived hundreds of cycles in the dishwasher without problem. I'd change my rating to 5 stars if Amazon provided a way to do it.
SEVERAL MONTHS LATER: Now I know why they don't want you to use a dishwasher. Over time the dishwasher scrubs out the lubrication on the blade shaft. Ours starting binding. Fortunately I had the tools to remove the shaft and lubricate it. Now it's working fine again, but now we are careful just to rinse it with a brush and hot water and keep it out of the dishwasher.
NOVEMBER 2008 Update: Three years of nearly daily use now, and no further problems. (Where does the time go?)

Burt Wolf, award-winning and highly-respected journalist, has tested and approves this product. Following are his comments. The modern WARING BLENDER is an excellent tool for liquefying. It will also puree, emulsify and grind. It will produce a finer textured soup or sauce than a food processor because its blades whirl at much higher speeds. The lid fits tightly and has an opening so ingredients can be added while the machine is running. The 5-cup dishwasher-safe, heat proof container sets securely into the brushed stainless steel base and will not wobble during use.The powerful two-speed motor will crush ice even at the lower speed. Blade is fixed onto the jar and is not removable. We have had this model in our test kitchen for over twenty years, and it still performs as perfectly as it did the day it was purchased.

I got this for my 17 year old son to make smoothies. He made the most delicious peach smoothie from ice and the Big Train Fruit Tea Smoothie Blast syrup also bought on Amazon. The consistency was smooth and perfect, just like a professional frozen drink. I asked him to make me one. On the second smoothie the motor died. We thought maybe it needed a little "rest" but sadly, it was the end of the road for that blender. When pressed for details, my son admitted that he noticed a burning smell before the motor stopped dead, and yet he kept pressing that button! Bottom line: great design, lightweight, nice personal cup size, easy storage and cleanup. The motor is just not very powerful, and can't take long blending times. Still, we are going to order a replacement and see if a bit more TLC while blending gives this blender better shelf life. Seems like it worked for some of the other reviewers.
Update: we got the new blender and it is working out great. You just have to be careful to pulse the blender as you go along, and stop for a few seconds (10?) if you start to smell the motor smell. Ice is blended into drinks very well, with no big chunks. The only downside is the no dishwasher requirement. I feel pretty tempted to try it, but as this is already the second blender I will resist.

No need to lug out the heavy-duty blender for those morning smoothies, protein shakes, or other blended beverages. When you're trying to get out the door in a hurry, this convenient blender offers one-person portions, simple one-touch blending, and durable stainless-steel blades for fast results. Best of all, its 14-ounce blending jar doubles as a travel cup, so you can sip from the same container you blend in, which means less to clean in the end. The portable travel cup includes measuring marks up the side, and it fits most car cup holders for safe, secure transport. A travel lid to drink from and a recipe book are included. Great for at home or on the go, the 175-watt single-serve blender measures 3-3/4 by 3-3/4 by 12-1/2 inches.
