My husband had purchased the Margarator for me during the winter in preparation for opening the pool in the spring. I am the person that is in charge of refreshments whenever we entertain and he thought this would be helpful in saving me trips back and forth to the kitchen because it is so large and self storing.

I have now UNSUCCESSFULLY used the item 3 times and have disappointed over a dozen guests that were hoping for a refreshing slushy drink by the pool. After my first unsuccessful attempt, I had my husband read the directions that I had read. He set up the machine the same way that I did, filling the ice to the Max line, adding the 2.5 cups of Tequila mix and the bottle of margarita mix. We even pre-crushed the ice cubes to try and help it out. Again, after 12 minutes of letting it run, it produced 1/2 cup of slush that would come out of the nozzle and the rest was trapped inside with large pieces of ice.

So the third time we chopped up the ice more, added extra fluid to try and help it AND shut if off and stirred with a wooden spoon occasionally. Same results as the previous 2 times. So we yet again scoop out the ice chunks, jam a straw into it and hand it to our disappointed guests.

Because he bought this in the winter, I can no longer return it to the store that he ordered it from. Do we have the receipt - NO. I am willing to pay to ship this back to the Hellman Group - NO. We have wasted enough money on mixes and alcohol alone.

I am EXTREMELY annoyed and disappointed with the malfunction of this product, as are all my parched guests. Am I willing to try it yet again? Thats what the Hellma Group asked me to do after I contacted them. They suggest that I try it with pepsi, full of ice with 1/2 the liquid mix..let it run for 5-8 minutes then add the rest of the mix.
Guess what...it did not work. The margartor will take its place next to the garbage can in its original box for all to see as they drive by this weekend.

Oster BRLY07-Z00 600-Watt Fusion Blender Review

(More customer reviews)When I set out to find a blender after reading reviews I was totally confused. I felt as if I needed to lay down 500 bucks just to make a smoothie. I took the risk on losing 70 bucks and went with this one because of the metal drive and the extra power. So far I have had nothing but very pleasing experiences with this blender in making my daily smoothie. I usually throw in big ice cubes and frozen fruit some juice and protein and hit the smoothie preset button and 30 seconds later I have a perfectly blended smoothie. I haven't tried anything else on this blender, but I thought I come back to write a review after using this 100 times. So yeah this gets five stars from me because the price was right and its has done its job and looked good on my counter. What else could I ask for.

Blender blade cutter for Oster & Osterizer blenders Review

This is caused by excessive pitch to the blades that results in overly strong pumping action and cavitation. i.e., when used to puree significantly viscous foods, the blades draw a lot of air down and end up not circulating the contents but only working the lower portion. My sense is that the pitch of the blades needs to be reduced about 50%.

KitchenAid 5-Speed Custom Metallic Blenders Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned a lot of blenders and this one is very impressive. I was tempted to give it 4 stars as it is not the best blender I have ever owned. That distinction goes to the Vita-Mix which has a nuclear reactor for a base, sounds like a Harley and cost as much as a microwave but if you need a blender that can crush anything and make flour and HOT soup....well....but back to the KitchenAid.
First it looks great. As a home chef, having a sleek modern looking kitchen is important. Second it is easy to clean... I will never own a push button (i.e. old Oster-type) blender again. Nor one with a multi piece jar. One leak can and has ruined an evening or party, as you run to grab paper towel and dish clothes to control the margarita or soup that is running across your counter and down your cabinets. Then the fun of cleaning your blender nooks begin....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Now the really impressive part. I have owned a Waring for years. Everyone always raves about it and if you have a thin liquid, it works great. But for crushing ice and making smoothies, it just flat out sucks. So I sought out an ice crushing (margaritas), sealed jar (gravies/soups), lightweight, large capacity (parties), easy touch (easy to clean), piece of art. The KitchenAid is all those things and has a logic built in that controls the blade speed. It knows how well it is crushing the ice and modulates the motor to ensure an even snow like texture that is incredible. The same system is also built into the other modes, measuring resistance to step the motor up, then back it down to ensure smooth results.
This is my first KitchenAid product, but it will not be my last. BRAVO

Nostalgia RSM-650 Retro Vertical Slush Machine Review

(More customer reviews)The product looked like it was constructed well. It worked as advertised, but was extremely loud. Loud enough to drown out the sound from my 1000 watt surround sound system turned up to 7 out of 10.
you can only run it for 45mins at a time. I ran it just long enough to make the slushie, about 25 to 30 mins. On my 9th time of using the machine it stop working. unfortunatly it took 36 days for me to use it 9 times, and of course it is only returnable for 30 days.
Now I must pay $25. to return it to the manufacturer for repair. This ups the price for the product to almost $100, hopefully I'll get more than another 9 slushies.9 slushies for $50 = $5.56 per slushie not including price of salt slushie mix and ice. I'll let you decide if thats a good deal.

This 3 pack is made of a very cheap material. They work, but I don't expect them to last very long. I'd rather pay more for solid goods that don't feel cheap and will withstand some average use.

It is unbelievably hard to crank, he always had to do it because I literally could not turn the crank more than a couple of inches either way. It broke off internal plastic pieces the very first time we used it, and more pieces broke off each time, until after using it about six times, it was completely unusable. This is a very expensive ice crusher that looks like it is quality because it appears to be all metal. Do not be fooled. Many interior pieces are plastic, and break immediately. This was a complete waste of money.

Paragon The Arctic Blast SnoCone Machine Review

(More customer reviews)EDIT 07/23/09: Another month and another trade event. I made approximately 500-600 snow cones at this event and the machine performed perfectly without any problems at all. This machine is certainly well built and will serve you well. I can't recommend this machine highly enough.
ORIGINAL REVIEW FOLLOWS:
I bought this unit for a three-day trade event and it performed perfectly. I easily made back the purchase price of the unit without issue, so the price point on this item is wonderful.
The motor is strong and it crushes ice quickly if left at the factory setting. I found that the ice is a bit coarse for some people as calibrated at the factory, so I adjusted the blades to produce a VERY fine snow. The finer snow absorbs the flavorings much better than coarse ice and has a more "Italian Ice" look to it.
The instruction manual for the unit does not tell you how to adjust the blades, so I will tell you now:
1. MAKE SURE THE UNIT IS UNPLUGGED!
2. Lay the unit on its side, with the door facing up.
3. Use the hex wrench that came with the machine to loosen the blade assembly set screws. This is done be reaching into the hole that the ice falls from when grinding, rotating the assembly, then finding the set screws. You will need to rotate the assembly again when the screws are loose or they will make contact when you try to remove the cutter assembly.
4. Push the cutter assembly off the shaft and into the ice chute. Be careful not to cut yourself on the sharp blades.
5. Use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the two screws on each blade.
6. Move the blades IN to shave the ice finer or OUT for a course, crushed ice.
7. Tighten the screws and reassemble the unit.
You will need to experiment a bit to get the perfect shave/crush, but it is worth it.
Things to note:
The ice tray does not drain very well, so you might want to prop up the end opposite the drain in order to help water flow to the drain. I also backed the drain out until the plastic portion that goes into the pan was flush with the inside of the pan in order to help it drain better.
You WILL spill water all over the place when you try to clean the tray if you don't use some towels to dry it before attempting to remove it, as you have to lean the tray considerably to get the drain to come out of the case. Another suggestion is to put a plug in the drain when you are removing the tray, otherwise water will certainly pour out if you don't soak up water from it.
The motor seems to be very strong and I expect it to run for quite some time. I made hundreds of snow cones without any issues and the machine performed perfectly the whole time.
The product information doesn't mention it, but there is a decal on the front of the unit that says "Sno-Cones." The decal looks nice and helps advertise your product.
Overall, I would give this unit an 8.5 out of 10. Highly recommended.

Hamilton Beach 51101 Personal Blender Review

(More customer reviews)The other day I impulsivley went and bought a Hamilton Beach Juicer. When I got it home I hemmed and hawed, wondering if I should use it or not. Did I really want it? I started looking around the internet and realized what I really wanted was something to make smoothies or other fruit concoctions. I researched a few things like the Magic Bullet and Ultimate Chopper but both had mixed reviews. I was tempted to buy the Tribest blender because it had some good reviews here at Amazon but I could only find it online and it's listed at $60 - much more than what I really wanted to spend.
Instead, I went to my local Walmart and to see what they had. I saw the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender and it was priced for only $13.67 so I was interested. It's just me, so I don't need a huge and heavy unit taking up what little counter space I have. I also figured since that if I bought it at Walmart and that if I didn't like it I could easily return it.
I brought it home, looked over the manual and attempted my first smoothie. I threw in milk, strawberries, frozen raspberries and hit the button. I needed to blend it some more because of the raspberries being frozen. Live and learn, I should have done those first. I put in some ice and blended it some more. It came out wonderful!
The jar itself can be used as a serving glass. I probably will only use it in that manner at home. It has no handle so I'd be afraid I'd drop it when I was out. Then the blender would be worthless because the blade is in the jar.

* Can not use big chunks of ice. You need to break them down. I have an ice tray where the shape is a small circle (half ball) and it was fine. Perhaps this is what you can use those holiday themed ice trays for. Some of those sizes which I have seem I think would work in this.
* NOT dishwasher safe - but easy clean up - rinse, put water and soap in jar, blend for a minute, empty, rinse again and you're done.
* No complicated speeds or choices - one push button
* I can't find it on the box or in the manual but according to Amazon, the motor has 175 watts of power
I just went and made another smoothie! Banana, Vanilla soy milk, little bit of chocolate syrup and instant coffee. Yummy!
This one site has TONS of recipes that you can use with this blender. You just have to play with the recipes because a lot of them are meant to be multiple servings.

While this might not do what a full size blender can, this is a great blender for smoothies, drinks, shakes and to grind coffee. I love that it's small, the cord wraps around the base and I can use this thing at night and not wake up the neighbors!
I just came back from the grocery store and picked up some more fruit... what else can I make???

Disney Mickey Ice Shaver & Snow Cone Machine in Red Review

(More customer reviews)The Disney Ice Shaver Snow Cone machine is Cheap Cheap Cheap. I purchased for several reasons:
1. I liked the style.
2. I liked the color.
3. I wanted something cheap to try out before I spent big money on a 'real' snow cone machine
First impressions...
Opening the box, I found that everything was well packaged in formed Styrofoam. The accessories fit into their locations well and are essential to complete the look of 'Mickey'.
The fit and style of this unit are pretty good for a completely plastic appliance. Mickey is light and looks good on the counter with the red/white accents (including the bright red cord - nice touch). This machine is pretty small and compact and can be put in an area 9" x 7" on the counter. I put him in the corner of my island for easy reach since we have snow cones everyday.
Accessories:
1. Snow Cone Cup Holder
2. Two flavor/syrup containers
3. Snow cone shaping cup/snow cone holder
There are two things to consider with these accessories:
1. Will you use 'standard' sized cups for your snow cone treats or another type of cup?
2. Will you make/store the syrup for your dessert in the ear cups?
To answer the first question, you need to understand how large the cup holder actually is. I purchased reusable plastic snow cone cups with an integral straw from Walmart for use with mine. These 'barely' fit in the holder and tilt slightly away from the base because there isn't quite enough room to fit them onto the holder. This is a minor issue since the cup still catches most of the ice. If you want to have a full to overflowing snow cone like my wife, this may bother you.
The size of the snow cone cup/top shaper is also small. This is designed for a small snow cone cup (5 oz or so) and not anything larger. It has styled mickey ears on each side of the cup that interfere with compacting the ice into a nice dome that we all expect when having a snow cone. Also, as a snow cone cup, it is very small (it's use is further diminished by it's lack of fit into the snow cone holder).
To answer the second question, the two syrup/topping 'ears' that sit on perches on either side of the hopper are pointless in my opinion, but do an excellent job 'looking pretty'. these two cups are difficult to work with and quickly become so sticky they must be washed to remove residue from previous snow cones. Though these fit will with the style and location for use, they do not fit into the base very well. As a result, I have sent these things bouncing on the floor many MANY times during use of the machine. Operation:
The Mickey Ice Shaver is a journeyman snow cone maker. It is loud (100dB at the point of use - use ear plugs if you are going to make more than one), it makes shaved ice slowly (about one snow cone per 90 seconds - when it is working correctly), and must be completely full of ice for the machine to work well. This last statement is intended to be a guide since it will technically make ice with less ice in the hopper, but something about the design does not allow the ice to move quickly into position when there is less weight pushing it into position.
The metal blade that does the work on this device is replaceable and can be accessed by taking the hopper screw out. This blade does not wear quickly and should last the life of the machine for the average user. If you are a snow cone fanatic, be prepared to sharpen/replace the blade. It is not a typical razor blade, so think about using a knife sharpener to perform this task.
Speaking of the full hopper required for it to work well, after I have made my last snow cone of the session, I place an empty snow cone cup under the nozzle to catch the dripping water that inevitably comes when the ice inside the hopper melts. (I learned this the hard way after seeing water all over the counter). This is a minor thing and should be expected of a machine that has no basin. The water dripping out of the machine does not fall on the electric parts and shouldn't cause an issue with operation. If you do want to get the ice out of the machine, there is a removable cover to access the hopper. After removing the cover, it is possible to invert the machine and remove the ice or, by unscrewing the hopper retaining screw (plastic wing screw), the ice can be removed by hand. Since the machine is so light and portable, I usually pop the top and pour the ice out if I have time (I usually let it drain into a cup, since I am not sure when the next snow cone will be made and the ice in the hopper may be useful minutes after I think we are done).
After several snow cones...
If you have a large family, you will probably be making more than one snow cone per child per day. If this is something that you only bring out for parties, be prepared to buy another machine. After 4-5 snow cones in a row, the motor is HOT and the mechanism is at it's limit. Although I was unable to get it to overheat with 6 snow cones placed through it continuously (motor never shut off), I have had the machine over heat and stop on me after 3 cones fairly close together.
If you enjoy the style and are an occasional snow cone consumer who wants a cheap, stylish machine that doesn't take up much counter space, this may be the machine for you.
If you have a large group eating multiple snow cones everyday, or if you desire something for parties, spend a bit more money and step up to a machine with better performance.

I usually mix these bad boys with a blender full of ice, alil cranberry maybe and a flavored vodka.(I call them "sloshed puppies") They add great flavor and bring you back to the days of drinking slush puppies and slurpies only this time there's booze involved. I highly recommend them in all flavors.-HOWEVER the shipping usually takes a while when its super saver shipping so order far ahead of any parties you may be throwing.

Crystal Clear Ice Crusher Review

(More customer reviews)We're very disappointed in this ice crusher, as most of its metal parts began rusting after less than a month of daily use. We have owned several versions of this manual crusher over the years: black plastic and chrome ones from the 1960's (one "hand-me-down", and a second tag-sale find); a Swing-Away (?) plastic version with a vacuum base; and two of this particular one.
For the first week or so, this did an ok job, though it did tend to slide around the counter during use. (The vacuum base on our previous crusher helped avoid this problem.) This crusher is made out of a rigid, clear plastic; we didn't get to use it long enough to see if it would hold up as well as the sightly flexible, translucent plastic of our previous vacuum-based model.
The key problem was that the metal parts of this crusher began rusting within a couple of weeks. (The same problem ruined our prior vacuum-based model, though it took a year or two to occur there.) Unfortunately, the rust began appearing just after the 30-day return period ended.
We've since purchased the electric Waring Pro Professional Ice Crusher through Amazon; while it was considerably more expensive, it seems to work very well and there is no sign of rusting. If you use a crusher at all frequently, I'd suggest spending more for the Waring.

(More customer reviews)First and foremost, this ice crusher does a pretty good job. The top half of the ice crusher is heavy compared to the base so it can be knocked off balance. It does a good job crushing even large ice cubes from the traditional Rubbermaid ice trays. It does not grind the ice into snow but I didn't expect or want it to. One down side is that the finish of the ice reservoir (the bottom half) gets damaged if you put it in the dishwasher. You also can't load a large amount (more than a cup and a half I would think) of ice at a time.

(More customer reviews)I don't really mean that in a good way. I received my Deni 6000 from Amazon and unpacked it right away. I've been using a Metrokane Ice Crusher for over a year now which makes the perfectly sized crushed ice for chomping on(not too bad for drinks, either) but the Metrokane is a hand-crank style and since I'm crushing ice about ten times a day... I thought I'd look for an electric one.
First off, the Deni 6000 makes ice chips about the size of a grain of rice- shaved ice style. This is an excellent product if you are looking to make sno cones or tropical adult drinks. I do not find the highly uniform and tiny size of the ice bits very good for crunching and munching, however. I don't think I'd like this style ice for my amaretto or whiskey sours, either- the ice melts too much when you add anything to it. But, that is really a matter of taste in function.
My two biggest issues- which prompted me to return the product- it has a funky little ice chute that takes one ice cube at a time and when I released the cube into the chute a major piece of fractured ice came flying back out at me and almost put out my eye. Now, I know I have two eyes, so no big deal, but I figure with my frequency of use I'd be inclined to put out the other eye in no time.The second issue I mebntioned is that while the rest of that ice cube was dancing around in there, the whole little machine was trying to rumba off my countertop. I literally had to hold the thing down and it still put up quite a struggle.
It was a little loud, but hey, no one even notices in my house.
The ice that came out was very nice for a sno cone and I like sno cones, so I give it a 3 star rating. Also because it was very easy to use- no assembly required, plug and play.

(More customer reviews)My wife loves to crunch ice. We purchased a new refrigerator with an ice crusher, but the chunks were fairly large for crunching, with pieces about 1/2" to 5/8" in size. I was hoping that this unit would crush ice further to make more of a slushie ice. To my wife's delight, this unit crushes ice to a fairly uniform 1/4" and under piece size, perfect for crunching. The ice chunks end up soft and easy on the teeth, and, like a slushie, hold onto soda or juice for flavor. The unit is used two to three times a day and seems pretty rugged.
