(More customer reviews)This is a great mold. It comes with a cake mix recipe, or you can use a boxed cake mix (which is what I did). I used DH Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix.
Before baking the mix, coat the inside of the mold with butter or cooking spray. Then apply a light sprinkle of flour to cover the inside of the mold. (Tap lightly to remove excess flour).
Make the cake mix as directed on the box. Pour into the mold. Bake on a cookie sheet at 325 degrees for 40 minutes.
After 40 minutes, you will notice that the cake mix does not come up to the top of the mold. If you insert your spoon into the center of the cake, you will see it is still molten. Spoon out some of the insides and push up against the front door of the igloo and around the sides to make the shape more uniform. Put back into the oven.
Keep checking the igloo ever ten minutes thereafter with a toothpick to determine when it's finished. Mine was done after about an hour and ten minutes or so. After it completely cools, flip over onto a plate. It will fall right out of the mold. Dust with powdered sugar.

(More customer reviews)First, to clarify from the picture, you only get one mold. The silicone used is very high quality--smooth, strong, flexible. The molded pieces of chocolate are approximately 4-5g each, so filling the mold will take only about 2 ounces of chocolate. The small capacity is my only reason for 4 stars. I wish I had a half or even quarter sheet size mold.
I've been making my own chocolate, and found that pieces molded in this are shiny and look very attractive. The small size means they cool very quickly. Once solid, the chocolates separate very easily from the mold.
Manufacturer's part number is SCG11. Their specs are:

The finger pockets are not deep enough so only part of your fingers can do the lifting. It also doesn't expand very much. This is a super idea and would be so helpful on the corning ware casseroles since most do not have a good gripper edge, but it needs to have deeper finger pockets and really expand so your whole hand can go around a casserole.

(More customer reviews)Fair enough. These trays are excellent. Cubes really do last longer because, unlike regular "twist-and-crack" trays, these trays make perfectly intact cubes. No more shattered bits of ice to skitter across your kitchen floor, waiting to be stepped on by unsuspecting bare feet. There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to carrying a refilled tray to the 'fridge and sliding the new frozen cubes out. Other than that, these trays are excellent. Please note that the yellow trays cost less than the other colors. If you're freakish enough to care about the color of your ice cube trays, you probably have much more pressing problems.

(More customer reviews)I am sure I will work through this problem but it started to set much faster than stated. So I wasted a lot of material initially. Within the short time I finished kneading together the 2 parts, it would not properly wrap around form as it was already firm and setting up. I have done lost of casting and mold making of various sorts in the past so I should have had no problem ......perhapse the key is to mix in little bits and build up, but that would leave joining lines.. I tried the other brand that is the same as this product and had same problem. I believe there is even another putty with a very long set time. Might try that but think I will just go to pouring silicon molds....thought this 2 part putty method would be easier and less expensive but now I don't think so.... But that's just me.

Lekue Silicone Ice Cube Tray, Shell Review

(More customer reviews)This is great as an ice tray; you don't have to run water over the bottom, crack and twist the tray, and then get splintered ice, drips all over your kitchen, and too many or too few cubes. You don't have to turn it upside down; just push from the bottom and get exactly however many cubes--I mean, shells! you want, with no breakage or mess. The tray is a little soft and flexible so you do have to find a flat place in the freezer for it, and when I stacked another tray on top I got a little bit of "stickage" and a few misshapen shells; not a big deal unless you wanted perfectly shaped decorative ice.
Tonight I also used them to make chocolates (by melting chocolate chips & peanut butter together), and am very pleased with the detailed design and how easy it is to remove the candies; you can stretch the silicone a little bit so you don't lose the detail of the shells, and the others are not disturbed . These would make lovely butter pats too! Each well holds exactly one tablespoon of liquid.
