(More customer reviews)I was tired of bending spoons and struggling with cheap tinny ice cream scoops. I have arthritis and not a lot of strength in my hands but this baby does all the work for me making the ice cream easy to dig out of the carton. I love the pointed end for digging in and the substantial handle for managing the dig. If the ice cream is too hard I will warm the scoop with warm water first but I rarely need to do that. Also, once the ice cream is out of the carton, it easily slides off the scoop and into the bowl.
I love the scoop and bought one as a Christmas Gift for a relative who had a good ice cream scoop on their Christmas list.

(More customer reviews)I tried this gelato scoop with firm ice cream and unless the ice cream is very soft I cannot get a good comfortable grip for scooping. If you really need an ice cream scoop, try the Rösle Ice Cream Scoop. I have one and it is the one I always reach for when scooping ice cream.
So while I expect to use it like my other Piazza scoops for portioning, this Piazza scoop does not have the scoop size stamped on it like other Piazza scoops.
PROS: Definitely made to last a lifetime. If you prefer squeeze actions over a thumb action for food release, this is the scoop for you.
CONS: Is a great portioning scoop if I knew how much I was scooping for a portion.

(More customer reviews)It scoops OK if you hold it under hot water between scoops. In hard ice cream, the front end doesn't really help. I can't say this is a bad scoop; but it's no better than cheaper scoops I've had and today I noticed a problem I don't remember ever having (and I'm an old guy).
I ordered this scoop on January 18th. I'm one person and didn't use it much for months, though I've eaten quite a bit of ice cream since hot days started. Today, I saw that the chrome is chipping (or wearing) off. I'm shopping for another, maybe stainless steel?

I use them for bird feeding, and keep them in galvanized barrels with the seed. Their the perfect size, reasonably priced, and very strong. I recommend them. Oh and by the way, I very much agree with the other reviewer here when he mentioned the difficulty in ordering a scoop online since they go by capacity rather than size. For anyone that is in the same boat and wants to know, this scoop is exactly 10 1/2 inches long, by 4 inches wide.

Unfortunately the gold finish on this spade started to peel off after a month or so. The finish looks like either teflon or paint, I can't tell which. I tossed it, I like chocolate chips in my ice cream not gold flakes!

(More customer reviews)I picked up this ice cream scoop because it seemed like it would be great being able to push the back of the scoop to get the ice cream out. As it turned out you can't push it in far enough for it to really work well, and I think the plastic/rubber actually sticks to ice cream more than metal does. Ultimately I tossed this and am not looking at new scoops. I love my KitchenAid ice cream spade, but would like an actual scoop since sometimes the spade makes the scoops too wide.

(More customer reviews)I've had this scooper for a couple years now. It has always required a fair bit of effort to get it to go through hard ice cream. This tends to result in having to take shallow strokes and the ice cream coming out in thin slivers. A few weeks ago the "neck" part of the metal scooper slid out of the handle; an internal snap most likely due to the force required to scoop tough ice cream. It was still usable though as long as you kept neutral or downward pressure on it while scooping, which is usually the case anyway. Today the plastic plug in the end of the handle where the neck goes in snapped as well so it all comes apart very easily now. Hopefully I'll be able to manage the next couple of bowl-fulls while I shop for a new, easier to use scoop.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because after using it twice, it does appear to have some scratches on it already. That might be expected, though, since the dry sink in the bar is metal. This ice cream scoop is the best I've had. I have found that if I treat this scoop well - it will do the same to me. I have had others that were either difficult to use or that were small enough that they ended up melting into the icecream and then, unfortunately, being thrown away. That could never happen to this big bright green scoop.
It glides through the ice cream with ease. I don't have to set the ice cream out before hand to let it soften for 10-15 minutes. This can tackle ice cream straight out of the freezer, with little effort.
Then I just wash and dry it BY HAND and this guy is good to go.
This is the ultimate ice cream scoop, functional and cute, too! (and it won't get lost in your melted ice cream)
