(More customer reviews)Maybe I did not read the directions and was too eager to start using them but I washed and rinsed the containers before using them for the first time and water seeped between the container and plastic liner. I did not submerge them and was trying hard not to let any water near the seams but it wicked in anyway and took forever to dry out. I'm concerned that over time flour powder will get between and when I wash them again something nasty might grow. I'll probably use a damp cloth to clean them to avoid this.

I used 5 grams Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Starter (one packet, only) and 32 oz. whole milk following the directions on the back of the Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Starter package. I ran the Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker for 7 hours to incubate the yogurt. I think this is the best tasting yogurt I have ever had.

(More customer reviews)I was tired of bending spoons and struggling with cheap tinny ice cream scoops. I have arthritis and not a lot of strength in my hands but this baby does all the work for me making the ice cream easy to dig out of the carton. I love the pointed end for digging in and the substantial handle for managing the dig. If the ice cream is too hard I will warm the scoop with warm water first but I rarely need to do that. Also, once the ice cream is out of the carton, it easily slides off the scoop and into the bowl.
I love the scoop and bought one as a Christmas Gift for a relative who had a good ice cream scoop on their Christmas list.

(More customer reviews)Saw these first in a magazine and thought it would be great for Florida. The ice cream went in easily. One fell out of the freezer onto the tile floor and a piece cracked off before it could even be eaten. When you use them, ice cream melts down from the part that pushes the ice cream up. It oozes down the handle so your hand gets all gooey. I sure wish these worked better because I would sure be buying more. Unless a new design or better working material is used, please note the above problems before you buy so you know what to expect. FOLLOW UP: I contacted the company who made these thinking maybe mine were defective. After e-mailing them on 3 different occasions with no response, I'm assuming they know of this flaw and are planning to do nothing about it. Save your money and don't buy these items.

(More customer reviews)We bought this unit because we were delighted to find an ice cream maker that allows you to make SMALL amounts, and even better, three different flavors (it allows you to make three distinct pints). We used it relentlessly for two weeks, and couldn't manage to make anything thicker than a milkshake. Worse yet, most of the results, when frozen, were like the unfortunate consequences of melted and refrozen ice cream: you get a sweet treat that's as hard as a rock, and impossible to serve unless you have an icepick and a sledgehammer! We weren't willing to put egg in our recipes, but wondering if that was the problem, we tried a vegan egg replacement product: that ended up our most successful batch, but by that point we'd already felt as if we'd had to fight too hard with the darned thing, and we didn't want to be forced to make only recipes that called for eggs, so we returned it. We just ordered a Cuisinart ICE-20 from Amazon to replace it, because a friend has that same unit and it makes absolutely delicious, perfect ice cream! She's made many recipes _without_ egg, and they come out fine.

(More customer reviews)When I first got this I followed the directions on the box for chocolate cookie ice cream exactly (which specified refrigerating the mixture for 30 minutes and freezing the gel canisters for 24 hours). This gave me something at about the consistency of a runny milkshake. My second try involved refrigerating the mixture for 18 hours and freezing the gel canisters for around 36 hours. That was more of a thick milkshake.
My winning formula was refrigerating the mix overnight and freezing the canisters for a week in a 0 degree (F) deep freezer. This produced fairly soft ice cream, but still definitely ice cream (it did harden in the freezer afterward). I haven't yet experimented to see what the minimum time for a refreeze is, but bringing them down from room temperature the first time took a very long time.
If you want to make smallish batches of ice cream fairly often, then this is the ice cream maker for you. It doesn't require you to get bagged ice to cool the mixture, and the gel canisters collapse to take up less space in your freezer if you just store them there full time. If, on the other hand, you want large batches or only want to make ice cream for special occasions you're probably better off with a bagged ice and rock salt model.

Rival 8804-BL 4-Quart Oval Ice Cream Bucket, Blue Review

(More customer reviews)Works as advertised, makes fine ice cream. Instructions are brief and clear. Well-made for the price. About the size of a small wastebasket, fits easily into one side of a double sink. I think the size is an excellent compromise between the countertop units and the big churns.
The can is thin deep-drawn aluminum with no seams at the bottom to trap salt (like a soda can, but not nearly that thin). People have complained of it getting pinholes from corrosion during storage, but I think this must be from forgetting to rinse all salt from the bucket, or not drying can or bucket thoroughly. I would recommend storing the can upside down in the bucket so that any possible moisture/corrosion will be at the rim where it will do little harm, but the can will still be protected from dents.
The motor is silent but the gear train is noisy, because it's all spur gears. All gears but the final one are die-cast zinc, and the final looks like filled nylon or acetal. Gears and shafts are greased with white grease. I believe they should hold up nicely in home use. Motor is fan-cooled and has a self-resetting overheat protector.
All in all a good, lightweight but honest product that should last well if you get all the salt and moisture off after use.

Viatek Duo Treat Ice Cream Maker Review

(More customer reviews)The air of the normal freezer (at least my freezer) is not cold enough to freeze the mixture fast enough to make smooth ice cream. It doesn't mix fast enough to keep the outer, frozen parts of the mixture stirred in to the center so it stops when the outer part is icy and the center is still liquid - which then freezes too hard to be called ice cream. Also, the cold causes the batteries to drain faster. Can be fun if you have kids and want to make a couple of flavours at once but if you want real ice cream, get a real ice cream maker.
Edited (5 months later) to add: for awhile the Duo Treat was not available. Now that it is available again they have a different picture for it. It's possible they've come out with a new model that addresses some of the problems listed above (then again, maybe not).

(More customer reviews)First- these are a great size. They would fit about 2 large scoops of ice cream. What is pictured look like small scoops of sorbet to me. The color is applied to the outside of the glass "bowl". I'm not sure how well it will wear- but I will definitely report back after I wash them several times and complain, if the coating comes off. The inside is clear glass- it's the outside only that has the applied color. I've have good luck with other Bormioli products, so I hope this one will be no exception. The company seems to pack its glasswear well, and all my pieces (12 in all) arrived with no breakage. The boxes are sturdy and keep the glasses protected. According to the box these are dishwasher safe, but as I said, I'll report back after I have used them for a while. So far I am very pleased- they are really cute.

(More customer reviews)This scoop has a really nice feel to it. The grip is large and the scoop itself is nicely chrome plated and heavy. Too bad it broke first time I used it.
The little lever that scrapes the scoop of ice cream out of the, well, out of the scoop broke after only one scoop. The rack and pinion that drives the scraper stripped out the first time I used this scoop. What a waste of $15.00!!!
Stay away from this brand; everything they sell seems to be made in China and seems to lacks any sort of quality control. I am very unhappy with this purchase. Only one star means that I can at least use it since I removed the little scraper bit. It's going back to the store.
Looks like I'll have to go back to bent spoons!
KitchenAid-shame on you. I expected more for my $15.00 than just one scoop.
