(More customer reviews)If you're planning on using this thing for anything other than making ice, you may be disappointed.
This valve can only be cycled "on" for six seconds before needing three minutes time off, otherwise it overheats and becomes useless.
GE abbreviates seconds as " (as in cartography) on their part, but spells out minutes. Both I and an electrician friend assumed that the " was just a typo and that it just needed three minutes downtime for every six minutes it was on. Not true. The part lasted about three minutes before dying.
So, if you have plans of a gravity-fed plant-watering system that just needs one 1/4" tube fitting solenoid to work properly, this is not your part. If you need something for your GE refrigerator's ice-maker, I'm sure you'll be as happy with this thing's performance.

The ice maker we used for about a year before servicing it twice and it needs servicing again. Each time is about $200 through their authorized service company ( a joke). Finally I got smart and turned it off. Now we have a awesome kitchen with a secret. Broken appliance... Try any thing but kitchenaid, (whirlpool) and you'll save yourself some heartache.

(More customer reviews)I *try* and do as many DIY projects that I can and after replacing my actual ice maker, water still wasn't being sent up through the tubes - I figured that I needed a new valve. I found this valve on Amazon - great deal on price and the seller had good reviews. The seller is wonderful, shipping was extremely fast and packaging was ideal. The installation was incredibly easy - just take out the old and hook up the new. I was hoping this new part would solve my problems and so I anxiously watched/listened for the pump sound and sure enough...water was shooting down the ice maker tube and now my ice maker runuth over!!!!!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this portable ice maker for myself. In the box, it was large, heavy and cumbersome. I got it out of the box and managed to heft it onto the countertop, next to my sink. You have to wait four hours before you can use it so the refrigerant can settle. During that time, I washed the basket, scoop, and inside of the unit with warm and mildly soapy water. I suggest letting the unit stay open during the four hours to help the plastic odor dissipate. After four hours had passed, I filled up the water tank up to the bottom of the plastic basket. (You put the water in the front portion, underneath the removable ice basket.) I plugged in the machine and the "add water" light came on. Whaaa??? I pushed start and the machine attempted to begin but shut itself off because of the "add water" light. I added more water so it was slightly higher than the bottom of the basket and added some to the top where the icemaker mechanism was and then I pressed start again. I was happy to see the machine stayed on and within 7 minutes I had medium sized ice cubes. The medium cubes are slightly over 1 inch long with a hole in the middle. A gallon of water made enough ice cubes to fill three gallon sized zippable freezer bags. The unit stopped making ice when the water level dropped too low. At that point I turned it off and drained it because I had enough ice to last me for the week. Do the first batches of ice taste "plasticky"? I think they do, but they can be thrown away.

(More customer reviews)I purchased a SS GE Profile refrig/freezer in 2002. The refrig was super quiet, except when the IM-4 icemaker cycled. The IM-4 could be heard from the next room. After having a new floor installed, the contractors must have damaged something in the rear of the icemaker (pump). I replaced with the new IM-6. After checking my connections and looking for puddles, I had to continue to look inside the freezer to see if it was working. The IM-6 is so quiet, I could not hear the cycling. The only sound that was heard was the ice dropping into the empty bucket. Finally a quiet ice maker for my quiet refrigerator! Good job GE.

(More customer reviews)OK, the Danby Ice N Easy makes ice as quickly as it advertises and you don't need a drain. However there are several things that you might want to know before buying one of these babies...
1. The ice tastes like plastic - I tried vinegar, baking soda and flushing the icemaker with gallons of water, but no joy.
2. The ice melts very quickly - it's not hard ice like you get from an icemaker that lives in your freezer. This has a nasty problem of then making your drink taste like plastic as well.
3. It frequently runs into problems like ice cubes getting lodged in places they shouldn't be, which automatically shut off the system until you attend to it - which means, it stops making ice.
4. When the bin gets full, the unit stops making ice. OK, this makes sense. However, there is no freezer unit in the icemaker, so the ice melts. If you don't need ice for several hours, then all you will have is a melted ice blob because the unit doesn't seem to sense when the ice has melted enough to start making more.
So, unless you enjoy watered down plastic tasting drinks as well as attending to the icemaker on an hourly basis to make sure that everything is still working, I would recommend against this machine and others like it. You just can't get good ice without a freezer component. Maybe this thing is good for boaters that just don't have any other options, but for the home I really wouldn't put up with it.

(More customer reviews)The print for my refrigerator showed the part #WR30X0327 as the icemaker I needed. Apparently it's obsolete and this #WR30X10093 was supposed to be the direct replacement. The adapter cord made the complete cord assembly way too long so had to do some maneuvering to get all the cord placed in the back so it could be mounted. Then the basket would not slide back in as this model hangs to low.
Then I get on here and find I can't return it. Great system!!

(More customer reviews)If you buy this part, make sure you give it 24 hours to work. I was expecting it to start working right away as soon as I installed it. I was very frustrated when I didn't see the dial start to spin when installed. I actually took the part out and sent it back thinking it was defective. Well it turns out the part has an internal thermostat that has to get cold to the right temperature in order to kick the icemaker on. They failed to leave out this very important bit of information. The common lay person would never know this. So don't send it back, give it 24hrs to work!
