NRS Engel Cooler - 80 Quart Review

NRS Engel Cooler - 80 Quart
Average Reviews:

The cooler definitely keeps ice for a long time.
However, there are some issues; the latches are flimsy and the pins drop out, the seal drops out and needs to be replaced using silicon, there are manufacturing blemishes. Also, as of this writing there are not any trays available for this cooler.
Would I purchase this cooler again? Yes, if it was about $ 200.00 less. After about a year, finally sold my cooler. I then purchased another brand that was more expensive, has better latches and the ability to divide the cooler in three equal parts, but hopefully is without the above mentioned flaws.

IGLOO Sportsman’s 100-qt. Cooler Review

Used this cooler twice just to make sure how bad it was. Pre-cooled drinks + 60 lbs of ice = about 60 hours. It claims it can keep ice for 5 days at 90 degrees - not even close. I kept this in the shade the entire time and had to go searching for ice on the second day of a 4 day fishing trip, then had to reload ice before heading home. The little lid on top is nice, but it is not insulated and it holds condensed water inside. I hope this is not indicative of the Igloo brand. I gave it a try, but I had to return it and trade up to another Coleman.

This is a great little cooler. I have used it for a 10 person team in a hot climate. I fill it completely with ice and then fill it with water. It will keep ice water for two whole days and even a little into the third day then I need to start over. The lid does not screw on it is pressure fit. Don't forget to order a paper cup holder if you are using it as I am for a crew. There is a holder grip on the side but the cups and holders are sold separately. Highly recommended.

Igloo Playmate Elite MaxCold IV Travel Cooler Review

Igloo Playmate Elite MaxCold IV Travel Cooler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have other larger Igloo Maxcold coolers, which have thicker walls of insulation, and actually do keep things colder longer than a regular thin-walled cooler. Maxcold is supposed to be their "premium" sub-brand. This product, however, is nothing more than a conventional Igloo Playmate cooler dressed up with the blue-silver color and a flimsy, thin piece of styrofoam under the lid. I was very disappointed.
The walls of the cooler are no thicker than a cheap Playmate cooler, and as you would expect, it does NOT keep things colder longer. Any ice placed in this cooler will be melted within 12-18 hours at room temperature, not 3-5 days, as is typical with a Maxcold cooler. The only difference is a useless piece of thin styrofoam under the lid, which will surely break up and fall out soon. As any teenage science student can tell you, cold air falls, so insulation ABOVE the cold mass is nearly useless. Why did Igloo do this instead of make the walls and floor of the cooler thicker (as they do with other Maxcold coolers)? The answer is that some marketing guy at Igloo (who flunked science and had never used a cooler) thought it would be clever to slap the Maxcold label on a cheap Playmate cooler to fool consumers into paying more, without spending anything to add thicker walls.
Message to Igloo marketing geniuses: This will backfire on you. The fastest way to kill a higher-end brand is to put the label on a low-quality, non-performing product, and disappoint your target consumer. I will never buy an Igloo product again.

Igloo Marine Series 48 Qt. Cooler Review

Igloo Marine Series 48 Qt. Cooler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After several decades of use, my faithful Igloo Cooler was finally showing evidence of wear and tear. Several cracks had appeared in the outer shell, but it still didn't leak. It was time to get a new cooler. Since I had such good luck with the first Igloo, I spotted a display of 52-quart Igloo Marine Coolers and didn't hesitate to buy one. It's a little bigger than the first Igloo, but not much, and seems to have a little thinner walls, perhaps reflecting better quality insulation. It has a measuring ruler on the top, both in inches and centimeters. It's sturdy and well built and has a good capacity. Plus it has a drain, something my first model lacked. If this new cooler works as well as my first Igloo, it's well worth the cost.

Igloo Playmate Pal 7 Quart Personal Sized Cooler

Ive had my cooler for a year now and I'm still very happy ith my purchase!
This cooler is large enough for bottles of water and a reasonable sized plastic container and maybe a snack. Yesterday I had 3 bottles of water, Tupperware container for sandwiches, yogurt and blue ice packs in it. Everything was cold till everything was gone.I believe this is a great cooler for lunch and because it's plastic it should last a long time. Its easy to clean and not heavy to carry.
I also own a playmate mini, which is even smaller and good for smaller meals, but not large enough for more than one bottle. In my opinion both coolers are made for 8-12 hour use so be prepared to refreeze ice packs every night.

Igloo Stainless Steel Metal Replacement Hinge Set Review

Igloo Stainless Steel Metal Replacement Hinge Set

The stainless steel hinges are about 1/8" too long to fit the recess in the plastic of my Igloo Kool Mate 40. In addition, the holes only line up in the long direction and not in the short. The stainless steel hinge size is 2 1/2" x 1 1/4" and the hole spacing is 1 13/16" x 5/8". If they will fit your cooler I think they will be a good option.

I was very disappointed that the liner was not stainless steel. This cooler was able to keep ice in the back of my car for several days, but the hinge was not strong enough to repeatedly carry a twelve pack of cans.
The handle is molded into the lid. When you lift it, a cheap plastic hinge and the latch are all that supports the cooler's weight. My hinge gave after three weeks and I've been unable to find a replacement.

I think this is a good cooler if you're just using it for the day. We purchased this cooler for a camping trip. It kept our food cool during the drive and overnight but by morning all the ice was melted so we drove out to a store and got new ice that afternoon but by the evening all the ice had melted again. I don't think this cooler will work too well if you're trying to keep things cool for days at a time.

IGLOO MaxCold 24 Can Cooler Review

IGLOO MaxCold 24 Can Cooler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am always searching for personal-sized coolers that have excellent quality in their build and can keep its contents ice cold longer. The Igloo MaxCold 24 (16 qt) was the only personal to mid-sized cooler that claimed any significant number of days - 3 days.
This Igloo MaxCold 24 was tested using pre-chilled drinks and cubed ice, which lasted approximately 36 hours. When testing coolers, I leave the cooler in a room, the average temperature highs are usually around 90F, and the coolers are opened about every 4 hours to see how the ice is holding up and to resemble periodic use.
So far, this cooler has kept items ice cold longer than the other personal sized cooler tested to this point, which includes the Coleman Excursion 9 qt (approximately 24 hours), Rubbermaid 20 qt Ice Chest (approximately 10 hours), Coleman Flip Top 5 qt (approximately 8 hours). I was really hoping for the "3 day" claim, but was not that disappointed as this cooler appeared to keep its contents colder for a significantly longer period of time than any other personal-sized cooler. In addition, I do not use blocks of ice, which maintains much longer.
There appears to be a deliberate effort by Igloo to ensure that the lid was well insulated. The lid appears to be aligned very well with the body of the cooler and has a snug fit that locks in place nicely when closed, which will be helpful in locking in the cold. The make of the cooler appears to be of excellent quality, everything fits well, appears durable, and nothing bad of note. Most other coolers that I browsed through at the store often appeared dirty, has scratches, and some of the insulation "seeping" out of the mends in the cooler.
Overall, the Igloo MaxCold 24 is an excellent cooler and I would rate the build quality and its ability to keep the contents ice cold at the top of all personal coolers. 4.9 out of 5.0, which would have been higher if the ice was maintained closer to the 3 day claim.
Update on December 7, 2009:
I finally got to test out the Igloo MaxCold 24 using a half-gallon carton block of ice along with two frozen 16 ounce water bottles and four trays of ice cubes, which was added to several pre-chilled cans of iced tea. I just needed to see if the cooler would live up to its claim of "up to 3 days" of ice retention. The ice was maintained for 68 hours (2 and 5/6 days or 2 days and 20 hours), just 4 hours short of the 72 hour claim. It came very close to the maximum claimed retention and the water was still close to ice cold when I emptied the cooler.
On another note, the first cooler that I purchased looked exactly like it is portrayed in the picture, with the "MaxCold" badging formed into the body of the cooler. I recently purchased two more Igloo MaxCold 24 coolers as gifts for friends who took a notice to the nice size, fit, form, and design of the cooler (it was really interesting to see one of them really examining the Igloo MaxCold 24 and he even brought his own cooler to compare the quality between the two). While the form, fit, and color remains the same, the badging formed in the cooler states "Igloo." In addition, both appeared to have slight indentations on the side (barely noticeable, but I am a picky consumer). I am wondering if this is a result from purchasing the two coolers from a different retailer or lower quality control on behalf of Igloo.
Either way, the Igloo MaxCold 24 is still an excellent performing cooler with a nice build design and fit. It still has my vote for top personal-sized cooler. The Coleman Excursion coolers have excellent build quality and performance, but the Igloo MaxCold 24 has a significant edge in cold retention. Still rate the Igloo MaxCold 24 a 4.9 out of 5.0, as it fell just short of the 3 day claim for "ice retention" and the slight inconsistencies in the make, which would both probably not be a big deal to the majority of consumers.
