(More customer reviews)The blender feature of this is excellent (5 stars)... it does not splash what you are mixing out onto the counter. It is also quiet and the two speeds are great.
The down sides are:
1). It does an extremely poor job (one star) of whipping small quantities of whipping cream. Models with a separate 'whip' attachment are better suited for whipping small quantities of cream. The enclosed recipe calls for a cup, and under a cup just won't work, so technically it does exactly what it says it will. Other models with a separate whip can whip < 1/4 cup of cream easily.
2). This is one-piece tool and cannot be put in the dishwasher.

Oster 2605 Hand Blender Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered the Oster 2605 hand blender in October '06,,, in April '07 the plastic on the blending rod attachment cracked in half and I could no longer use it. I emailed the company and in two days I had a reply telling me a replacement rod was being shipped right out to me, no charge. I had the piece a week later. This was the second hand blender I purchased in a year and I really thought I was going to have to buy a third one. I was thrilled at how easy it was to get it fixed.
ETA on August 4, 2008, well I haven't owned the hand blender for two years and the blending rod has broken for the second time. Now the blade is slipping right out of the rod when I try to use it. When I contacted the company they tell me I should go to a service center to get it repaired. Looks like no more replacements for me,,I'll probably be shopping for that third blender, hopefully I can find one that can actually stand up to constant use.

(More customer reviews)I don't have much I can say about the Bamix that hasn't been said by many others, but I felt compelled to at least say something about it. This thing is incredible! When we bought our unit, we also bought one of each size of the polycarbonate beekers. It turns out that while you can certainly mix things in any kind of container, the size and shape of these containers is very appropriate for keeping an even consistency in whatever you're mixing, so I am glad we also got them.
My wife immediately made mayonnaise, which she said was "amayonnaisingly easy". (And it was gourmet restaurant quality too.)
I made some "ice cream" out of some frozen organic raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, peaches, and mango. It was really awesome - I froze it right in the beeker, which has a nice tight-sealing lid.
The Bamix is super easy to clean - just run it for a few seconds in a beeker of water and hang it up. We keep it right next to the sink on the stand. While we don't use it every single day, we do use it a lot, and it has really added a lot of great new options for us in the kitchen. Oh - the raw soups are amazing too.
My rating of the Bamix: 6 stars out of 5. It met and even exceeded expectations, and it seems like it is made so well, I bet we will still be using this same unit in 50 years!

(More customer reviews)I've owned my BAMIX hand blender for the past 12-years. It has never let me down and it truly is the most versatile kitchen device in my arsenal of cooking appliances. The machine works well between mixing & blending items on a hot stove, to crushing ice in in a single glass for making margaritas, all within seconds apart. The open ended design allows it to get at all the material you are chopping & mixing, and clean up is truly fast and easy. I've recently bought another hand mixer this year, because I misplaced my BAMIX hand blender. Anyway, what a disapointment to find that this major-named-brand of mixer, only has one blade, and it can't fit into a normal drinking glass. This past month I found my tried-n-true BAMIX hand blender, and was so grateful that I threw out the practically new hand mixer. Now that's true dedication to a product.
I have not seen anything close to the design of this hand blender on the market to this day that can replace this amazing machine. My only complaint is that I wish the price would come down. After all, it is one of the most expensive hand blenders on the market, but it is certainly the best.

Very simple to use, makes pots of carrot soup, potato soup, zucchini soup (you get the idea) faster and with less mess than I had thought possible. HOWEVER, IT BECAME UNUSEABLE AFTER ABOUT 7 USES. THE PLASTIC DISK BEHIND THE BLADE CAME LOOSE. IT SLIDES DOWN THE STEM AND GETS IN THE WAY OF THE BLADE, BECOMING A LITTLE MORE TATTERED WITH EACH USE. I just hope that I have made at least $50.00 worth of wonderful soup and that my family hasn't gotten a wierd disease from ingesting small chunks of grey plastic. I am editing my previous review but Amazon won't let me change the number of stars from 5 to 2.

Breville BCS500XL 9.6 Volt Cordless Immersion Blender with Recharging Base Review

I have been using a Braun corded immersion blender for over a year and it is far more powerful and cost $30 when I bought it new last year. Bought this Breville for the cordless convenience, but it stalls out often, even on full charge. The built in rechargeable batteries are only replaceable by sending it back to the manufacturer, and the cordless unit is much heavier than a corded unit so this probably won't be cheap when the time comes. As mentioned in other reviews, the power and speed switches are inconvenient and would probably not be recommended for anyone with arthritis or anyone lacking in manual dexterity. The "smoothie" attachment is made of cheap plastic, including the "blade" so if you like your smoothies with frozen fruit or ice, forget about using this attachment. For ice crushing you must use another attachment, but if you are a bodybuilder trying make a drink by mixing protein powders, supplement powders and ice cubes, you better get one of the many other immersions blenders on the market that sell for a third of the price, because this Breville just isn't powerful enough to do it without stalling unless you add more liquid than you probably care to drink. The cordless feature is nice, and for that it gets a star. It gets another for looking adequately attractive and for coming with all the attachments mentioned in the manual (i.e., nothing extra to buy). If you don't need the cordless feature, you might want to save your money and buy a more powerful, versatile version of this product for a fraction of the price.

(More customer reviews)I love handblenders. I have this one and its attachments, and I use it pretty regularly. I have two complaints: 1) the powercord is thick, cumbersome, and hard to keep out of one's way. I had a cordless unit from a different manufacturer before, and I must say--the extra power here is nice, but I'm not 100% convinced the hassle of the cord is really worth that extra umph very often. 2) and here's the kicker--there's no actual "on" switch. You've got to hold it on the whole time. I really wanted to give one to my mom for Xmas, but she simply doesn't have the hand-strength any longer to make use of this unit. It takes me two hands to keep it held "on," and my hands cramp up when I've got something that I need to blend for a sustained amount of time. That said, this is a lovely unit (I adore the red color), and I get lots of use out of it. I just would have liked a chance to think about those two issues before I bought it (about a year ago), and certainly before I gave it for a gift.

(More customer reviews)When i went to use the Mixxo for the first time, I was not sure how I would like it. I have had hand mixers before and they never live up to their hype. I know BOSCH makes quality products so I decided to give this a try. The first thing I attempted to make with my new Mixxo was a smoothie. I read that the foot can crush ice, so I figured that it would be able to blend up frozen fruit. I used the blender jug attachment piece and added my ingredients, I then attached the foot and turned the Mixxo on. In order to activate the Mixxo you have to hold down two buttons and then release one, this is a safety feature, but it was a little bothersome at first because i was not familiar with the machine. After a few minutes I was able to get the hang of things and the smoothies turned out great. I even added extra ice at the end and the Mixxo was able to crush the ice with no problem. On my second attempt to use the Mixxo I used the food processor attachment. This was really neat. The base of the processor has suction cups which help keep it in place on the counter. I found it very simple to hook up because the hand piece hooks on the the top of the processor. I was also very pleased with how quiet it is. I was able to talk with other people in my kitchen when I was using the Mixxo. Additionally it fits perfectly on my counter and all of the pieces except the hand piece can go in the dishwasher. It was very easy to cleanup after I was done using it. I am very satisfied with my purchase and I would recommend this hand mixer to anyone. The Mixxo exceeded my expectations. Once again BOSCH has delivered. It would also make a great wedding present or house warming gift.
***Update***I've been using this as a mini food processor and potato masher a lot over the past 2 years! It's still strong and works well.
It chops onions (with no eye pain) and peppers evenly.
It easily granulates and mixes spices, rubs and breading mixes.
It can make smooth or chunky mashed potatoes in an instant.
I love this thing and will continue using it every day until it wears out.

Hamilton Beach 59770 Turbo-Twister 2-Speed Hand Blender Review

(More customer reviews)I've had several hand blenders-it's a "thing" with me :) I started out with a hand-me-down from my Grandmother and after years of use basically wore it out. I've been looking for a good replacement and ended up trying a Braun and a Cuisinart. For all the power and attachments I still didn't like the Braun. The Cuisinart (Quick Prep) was loud, heavy/bulky and didn't seem to have much power. Here's what I like about this Hamilton Beach one:
-Manual says not to use it to blend ice but I do anyway and it does a great job of it
-I like the blade housing. The blade sits low so you can blend a tiny amount of anything (with other models you'd have to have a larger amount of food so that the blade can make contact). Also, with the openings around the housing of the blade less food gets stuck to it (when I used my braun half the food I blended ended up on the blender and when you're only doing 1/4 cup of something that's a problem). Also, the openings on the housing help to whip in air- important when you're doing drinks and shakes. The Braun also lacks in this area.
-I like that the bottom can be removed for cleaning (eventhough it can not be put in the dishwasher it's okay because when I'd put the shaft of the Braun in the dishwasher it would come out 1/2 filled with gross dishwasher water which defeated the purpose).
-I like the shape of the blade. The braun had 2 pointy blades where this one is more of an off set S shaped blade and it does a better job especially for frozen fruit, etc.
-At about 200 watts it's plenty powerful enough. Even though this has much fewer watts than my braun (which had 400)it blends MUCH better.

However, influenced by the price (12 bucks and change) and the reviews of other users, I bought this one. I'm not dissappointed at all! Works great!
So far I've used it to make smoothies and puree soups. In no time at all I had a nice smooth consistency for the smoothies and the soups took only a few minutes. Cleans up much easier than my standard blender, not to mention the time saved transferring things into the blender.
Also, I like that the guard portion surrounding the blade is not metal, I have a few enameled cast iron pieces of cookware that a metal guard would scratch.
You don't always have to pay top dollar to get something that performs well.

(More customer reviews)Great so far! I make Hot Pepper sauce every year and needed something with enough power to be able to grind up the pepper skins and make the sauce very smooth. Even my Cuisinart food processor has trouble with this task, plus it would leak hot sauce everywhere. Just got this and tried it on 2 different tasks. 1) I made a blended ice drink that was so thick it wouldn't pour! 2) I used it to grind some of my leftover pepper skins and vinegar. It worked very well but didn't grind up the seeds. Probably asking for too much there. Seems like it really has 550 watts.
I was nervous about buying a brand with no reviews, however I checked out their website and they have a 15 month warranty and their other products got good reviews. All the labels on it are in spanish with a small user guide in english. I compared it to the $100 Kitchenaid and I like this one better, especially at only $40. All the components seem well made and are stainless steel.

Cuisinart CSB-76 Smart Stick Hand Blender Review

(More customer reviews)As you can see from others' reviews (esp. on other smartstick models), this product apparently was built with a few plastic parts (instead of metal) that break down after just a bit of use. Then it starts making a horrible grinding noise.
I called Cuisinart, and their in-warranty replacement requires that I pay *THEIR* shipping of the replacement ($10), and also pay to ship the product back to them (probably another $10). Oddly, other people posting reviews here are not being charged.
I called back to ask why some people are having shipping waived, and others aren't. It sounds like they're using a combination of location (e.g. California, which has better customer protection laws) and date of purchase (e.g. if it's less than 6 months old, they're more likely to waive outbound shipping charge.)
IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING THIS PRODUCT: Be aware that the glowingly positive reviews appear to be from people who've just bought the product and haven't hit build quality issues yet.
January 4th 2010 update: The replacement product lasted only 6 months. Same defect. Throwing it out and buying a competitor's product. Never trusting the Cuisinart brand again.

Waring Pro SB10 Professional Immersion Blender, Black Review

(More customer reviews)After my 15 year old Braun immersion blender developed a crack in its fixed plastic shaft, I decided to do a little research on a new blender. I looked at the Cuisinart, Viking and Kitchen Aid blenders and saw a common complaint regarding the detachable shaft's gear mechanism stripping out after extended or heavy duty use. These blenders seem to employ a plastic gear which couples with the motor housing unit. It seemed odd to me that they would use such a method especially considering these models also have powerful 200w motors. One thing I also noticed was that people were using these blenders to crush ice and other really hard substances, which I would never even consider to do with an immersion blender. Immersion blenders were originally invented to blend sauces and soups in the saucepan, so you didn't have to transfer the contents to a conventional upright blender. I know that these manufacturers claim that you can chop ice and other things that a food processor or upright blender can do, but honestly, I think this is a reach for this type of appliance and you're only flirting with disaster if you use this device for purposes other than simply blending softer foods.
Back to the Waring immersion blender. Waring has a respected name in the commercial restaurant appliance market for many years and in fact, invented the first commercial electric upright blender. Fred Waring was a band leader from the swing era and prime investor in the original company, which is where the name comes from. Actually, I started looking at the professional, restaurant version of this model (WSB33) which retails at over twice this model's price and saw that the specs were identical except that the restaurant's version has a fixed, non-detachable shaft, a grounded 3-prong plug and only a 1 year warranty. This model (SB10) has a detachable shaft for convenient cleaning and a 5 year warranty. I was a little concerned about how the shaft attached to the motor housing, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the metal shaft that the blade is attached to is directly inserted into the motor, much in the same way the rotor blades on a hand-held mixer is inserted into the mixer's motor housing. A logical approach and much more efficient way of transferring the energy of the motor to the shaft and blade.
Overall, this is an excellent value for $30, even though its motor is only 100w compared to some in this price range with double the wattage. Plus, Waring is well known in the commercial restaurant business for its high-end immersion blenders (some in the $600+ price range), so I figure they must know a thing or two about blenders considering their pedigree. This model works great if you respect the appliance for what it is: a pulse-style immersion blender for soups and sauces and light chopping; not a blender for making Daiquiris or frozen Margaritas. Leave that to the upright bar-style blenders.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product mainly for making soups. I hated having to put soup into the blender in bathces to puree it. Not only was this time consuming but I usually made a huge mess in the process. Well this product solved that problem for me. I made a soup the other day and used this product to blend the soup right in the pot! While I was nervous about "only" being able to run the blender continuously for 50 seconds, I learned that 50 seconds is more than enough time for this item to blend a whole pot of soup, in fact it only took about 15-20 seconds.
I have also used the grinder attachment to mince fresh parsley, and have also made a smoothie using the included measuring cup and blender.
Although the manual states that you cannot run this product for more than a certain amount of time (depending on the function), I have learned that this product can accomplish those tasks easily in the time frames given (it took 5 seconds to mince my parsley!).
I cannot comment on the warranty as I have not had a problem with this item, but for the price if it fails I would most likely just buy a new one.
My only complaint would be that the whisk attachment seems very flimsy, but I have not actually used the whisk attachment yet, so I assume that it will work just fine for light tasks such as whisking egg whites. Although based on the feel of it I would not use it for much else.
However, I have a feeling that I am going to continue to find uses for this wonderful little gadget. For the price this item is a great buy.

The brushed chrome construction looks great and is also easier to clean than plastic versions. Handy features like detachable base, included mixing cup and extra long mixer are thoughtful and useful. The motor is smooth and powerful - it is the Audi V8 of the hand blender world. For the quality, brand and power, $30 is an absolute steal.
