Nostalgia MSB-585 Margarator 1-Gallon Margarita-Making Machine Review

Nostalgia MSB-585 Margarator 1-Gallon Margarita-Making Machine

I would have selected 0 stars but it was not a choice.
My husband had purchased the Margarator for me during the winter in preparation for opening the pool in the spring. I am the person that is in charge of refreshments whenever we entertain and he thought this would be helpful in saving me trips back and forth to the kitchen because it is so large and self storing.

I have now UNSUCCESSFULLY used the item 3 times and have disappointed over a dozen guests that were hoping for a refreshing slushy drink by the pool. After my first unsuccessful attempt, I had my husband read the directions that I had read. He set up the machine the same way that I did, filling the ice to the Max line, adding the 2.5 cups of Tequila mix and the bottle of margarita mix. We even pre-crushed the ice cubes to try and help it out. Again, after 12 minutes of letting it run, it produced 1/2 cup of slush that would come out of the nozzle and the rest was trapped inside with large pieces of ice.

So the third time we chopped up the ice more, added extra fluid to try and help it AND shut if off and stirred with a wooden spoon occasionally. Same results as the previous 2 times. So we yet again scoop out the ice chunks, jam a straw into it and hand it to our disappointed guests.

Because he bought this in the winter, I can no longer return it to the store that he ordered it from. Do we have the receipt - NO. I am willing to pay to ship this back to the Hellman Group - NO. We have wasted enough money on mixes and alcohol alone.

I am EXTREMELY annoyed and disappointed with the malfunction of this product, as are all my parched guests. Am I willing to try it yet again? Thats what the Hellma Group asked me to do after I contacted them. They suggest that I try it with pepsi, full of ice with 1/2 the liquid mix..let it run for 5-8 minutes then add the rest of the mix.
Guess what...it did not work. The margartor will take its place next to the garbage can in its original box for all to see as they drive by this weekend.

KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender Review

KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender
Average Reviews:

There are several reasons why I love using this blender.
1) The wide bottom jar: My last few blenders had the more traditional jar which narrows toward the bottom. That desgin usually jammed with anything thick (contents at the bottom would spin while the contents at the top would sit still and didn't "blend" at all). The KitchenAid's wide bottom wont "jam". Contents at all depths of the jar are circulated providing a smooth consistent blend. While there are more features to like - this one advantage was enough to make me never glance at another blender again.
2) Buttons: My last 2 blenders had a row of buttons. Food spills (ice cream shakes) would invariably drip down the side of the jar onto the base and through the holes where the buttons come through the base. The buttons would gum up and eventually stop working. The KitchenAid covers the buttons with a solid membrane. Nothing can leak in and any drips are easily cleaned away with a single wipe.
3) Clean design: There are really no cracks and crevices where food or drink spills can hide making this blender easy to disassemble and clean.
4) Heavy: Every part of this blender is sturdy and heavy. The jar isn't plastic, it's glass... thick glass. The lid doesn't push on, it does a quick twist-lock on. The base feels like it's cast metal - not some cheap molded plastic or thin metal like a tin can. I have no fear about loading it up, pushing the button, and walking away to prepare something else while the blender does the work. I don't need to hold the lid down and keep everything together as I did with my previous blenders.
Often times expensive "brand name" items really aren't noticeably any better than than their less expensive generic equivalents. This is not the case with this item. The design is substantially better than a typical blender.

Cuisinart BFP-703R Blender & Food Processor, Duet Combination Review

I was excited to get this Cuisinart a month or so ago because I love to cook, but I'm a college student who lives in an apartment. I don't have tons of space (or money, for that matter) to blow on two appliances. I have done many things with the SmartPower Duet, and it hasn't failed me yet. I've made deliciously smooth and thick shakes (including one with rum for a party - it was a hit.) I've made amazing salsa. I've made gazpacho. For some of these, I used the recipe book that comes with the machine. There are a lot of good recipes, indeed, but as an added bonus, the recipes give you helpful hints about how to use the appliance the best way - like, which ingredients to add first, instead of just shoving everything in.
Just last night I made a pasta salad with about twenty ingredients, most of which had to be chopped or minced or sliced, so I used the food processor with the chopper to pulverize the garlic and other spices into a nice smooth blend (thus avoiding the dreaded clumps of pungent garlic). Then, I took the spices out and added red and green peppers and other vegetables and chopped them up coarsely, like salsa. Then I put the slicer attachment on to the food processor and sliced perfectly thin slices of cucumber and red onion. I added this to some pasta, provolone cheese, and some olive oil, and voila, I had a great pasta salad in less than half of the time it would have taken me to prepare all of those veggies by hand.
I certainly haven't had any complaints about the workmanship. I love how it feels so sturdy without being bulky - the base is a little wider than most and not flimsy like most other blenders I've used, and the thick, glass blender jar is squat instead of tall and thin, which seems to make blending things a lot easier because the ingredients can easily move around near the blade. The keypad controls are enclosed so it's incredibly easy to clean up splatters and spills. The processor bowl doesn't seem to be flimsy to me (perhaps they've fixed the problem ?). In other words, this thing is great.

We use a blender about once a week for smoothies and crushed ice. We had a Black and Decker than burned out in less than 6 months, so we got this more expensive, supposedly higher quality Cuisinart as a replacement. It did a great job blending a smoothie, but it smelled like burning plastic with the first use and stopped working completely during the 3rd use - so it was promptly returned.
Also, the pitcher was awful other than the size. The lid was hard to use and it was impossible to pour a smoothie without spilling. Because it blended so well, we would have tried a replacement unit for the initial unit that quit, but couldn't tolerate the mess created with pouring.

Finally, a product that lives up to all its hype and doesn't end up wasting precious kitchen space like the food processors, bread machines, etc. we have bought in the past but all too often turn out to be too much of a pain to clean and assemble. I've had mine for over a year now...we live in an apartment where kitchen space is at a premium. On hot days, if I turn on the oven or stove, it heats the whole kitchen and half our place up. To top it off, I'm a vegetarian -- hubby is not. The George Foreman Champ grill is terrific -- I buy those extra-lean premade frozen hamburger patties at Safeway, and even Jim (whose specialty is cereal with milk) can get motivated enough to plug the grill in, heat it up and toss a patty, or an Italian sausage, boneless chicken breast, etc. for a quick lunch, dinner or snack. Best of all, no splatter of grease like you would get using a skillet - the grease just runs off! Besides cooking for hubby, I have also used it to make super GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES, and Gardenburgers come out great. And that non-stick surface is great -- so easy to clean! I just can't say enough good things about the George Foreman Grill. I've recommended it to countless people and even bought several for presents (my sister and brother-in-law bought about 15 of them last Christmas for relative presents!). So buy it already! It's great!

This factory-reconditioned machine prepares food for a crowd and ably handles tough mixes. Its body features durable die-cast metal construction and offers a direct-drive transmission and all-metal gears. Waring MX1000 Professional 3.0 -Horsepower Blender Review

Waring MX1000 Professional 3.0 -Horsepower Blender

We have gone through 4 blenders in the last 18 months. We are consumers of high quality products and usually do our research. Each and everyday we make "fruit shakes" for our family of 5. Our mix consists of frozen fruit, sometimes some fresh fruit, yogurt, and oj. Our other blenders burned out, even the Blendtec couldn't handle the job (it automatically shut down on us, plus it couldn't really handle 64 oz. of our mix!). But this guy (okay, it's very masculine looking), can do the job quick and make enough in the mega-sized 64 oz. plus pitcher for all 5 of us (we usually have to make 2 pitchers). Frozen drinks are just about all we use a blender for so for our purposes, this is the only one for us! It's loud, it's scary, it moves about a bit, but it does the job so fast that it doesn't matter that much. It's not that attractive to my eyes, but my DH thinks otherwise. I usually like to store my appliances in cabinets, but this one is too big and heavy to move in and out each day...so on the counter it stays (it's sure to be a conversation piece). I have to say that it makes my life A LOT easier and that is why I rate it a 5.

Cuisinart CBT-700 Die-Cast 700-Watt Blender Review

Cuisinart CBT-700 Die-Cast 700-Watt Blender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I write my review I wanted to add that this is literally the FIFTH blender we have tried in the last 45 days in our search for something decent.
To date we have throughly tested the following and found them all lacking in one way or another:
Oster 4093 Classic Beehive Blender, Chrome
Waring PBB25 Professional Bar Blender, Black and Stainless Steel
Vita-Mix 1700 Turbo Blend 4500 Countertop Blender with 2+ HP Motor
Oster BPST02-B Professional Series Blender, Black
Now our CBT-700 REVIEW:
The Cuisinart CBT-700 is the latest blender model to be released by the company. It combines the wide glass jar design of earlier models with a new SMART electronics system that provides preprogrammed functions for common uses such as making smoothies and crushing ice.
So far our results have been good, but we have noticed that the jar design does not funnel ingredients down into the blades as well as the Oster Beehive blender we tried. However, since as many other reviewers have mentioned on those product pages, Oster blenders suffer from a serious design flaw in which the drive system snaps in half, it really can't be compared to something that will actually last more than a few weeks. The fact that Oster claims in their product ads that they use an ALL METAL DRIVE, yet the main component of the drive is RUBBER left us feeling deceived. Especially when the machines we tried repeatedly broke down within weeks of receiving them. STAY AWAY FROM OSTER!
Back to the CBT-700...
If the blades used on the CBT-700 were larger and filled more of the jar area, I have no doubt that nothing would work better, but since that is not the case, you may have situations where an air pocket prevents thick contents from reaching the blades. I am still wondering why this design uses such a wide jar, yet incorporates a blade system that is the same size or smaller than many models with narrow jars. ??
The Smoothie feature seems to work relatively well, and we are still trying to determine the optimum mix of ingredients in order to get a smoothie that blends well, yet also ends up with the consistency we want. You may want to use a lower spped after the smoothie cycle is done to get the thickness to what you like.
In that regard, this unit's drive system uses the time tested clutch design common on many other blender brands. The gear material appears to be a synthetic rubber, which we are hoping will result in a long life and no broken or stripped teeth over time. It has a bit more "give" than the hard plastic found in most blenders with this type of clutch drive, and should be immune from the degradation that rubber clutches fall victim to over time.
Based on the unit's overall performance, design and appearance, I am able to recommend this highly blender as a good choice in this price range. Although we preferred the results we saw with the Oster Beehive better than anything else we have tried, the fact that the CBT-700 has already surpassed the number of smoothies made before the Oster broke, means that we have to go with something that will also last us more than a couple of months. On that note, this model comes with a 3 year warranty which is better than anything in this price range!
So... At present time we are planning to keep this one, which is saying something based on how many other brands we were forced to return!
I am giving this product a 4 star rating because I feel that no product is perfect, thus I see no value in rating anything with a PERFECT SCORE. Too bad I am in the minority around here, since it seems most people on this site give everything they like a 5 star rating. Throwing out perfect scores like confetti is hardly helpful for other potential buyers.
If anything changes in terms of reliability issues, I will update this review accordingly.
I hope that you found my comments helpful in your decision making process. :o)

Other sets include 2 rings for a slightly higher price. Those rings are made with a smoother material and are thicker and will withstand a lot of use and even abuse.
This 3 pack is made of a very cheap material. They work, but I don't expect them to last very long. I'd rather pay more for solid goods that don't feel cheap and will withstand some average use.

I just threw a party last weekend at my new apartment - I got this blender cuz it was big and looked nice (and I thought it might inspire some creative margaritas!)
The blender worked great and since our friends kept talking about how good it looked, I figured I'd give it a good review. The blender jar is huge (I think it's 1.5 liters) - it's perfect for parties. It also has some rubber feet to keep it from shaking and bouncing around. We made a ton of frozen drinks and it handled ice cubes without any problems. I'm using it for my daily smoothies too.

A friend suggested this to me and after her review and research, I decided to get it. I have owned the Ninja Master Prep for a little over a month and it is as advertised. You do need to make sure you don't overload it. I've learned to use the pitcher for most things. The pour spout makes it easy to add more liquid if needed. I've made mixed berries ice cream, strawberry ice cream, iced coffee and chicken salad. My great-grandson loves the ice cream. I use frozen fruit, reg. milk and a little sugar for him, splenda for me and it's perfect. I make as much as I want and if there is a little left over put the lid on and put it in the freezer. I have strawberry ice cream in the freezer now. I freeze left over coffee in an ice tray. Put frozen coffee, coffee mate, splenda and milk in the pitcher and mix. The only problem so far, after I have 1 ice coffee I want another. I would buy this again and would love to have an additional pitcher.

I've made ice cream with this machine four times and it has been delicious every time with every recipe that I have tried. I made a mistake the first time I used it (I don't count that time), I didn't read the instructions as closely as I should have, the Deni should be turned on and the cylinder should be turning at all times, if you stop the machine during the process, it doesn't turn back on and your ice cream process is over, finished or not! Lesson learned... :)
